Anyone want to lay odds that this involved charging old people enormous sums of money for smearing tarmac on their drives?
TEN IRISH PEOPLE have been arrested for allegedly breaching the conditions of their visas in Sydney, Australia.
New South Wales Police said they received information from their counterparts in Victoria that a number of Irish nationals may be staying in Sydney unlawfully and committing offences.
About 2.30pm last Thursday (13 October), officers from Cabramatta Local Area Command detained three people suspected to be unlawful non-citizens on Hamilton Road Fairfield.
The people were searched by police and it is alleged that cash was found on a 38-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy.
It is believed this cash may have been earned unlawfully whilst the two males were on tourist visas.
They were charged with unlawfully obtaining goods and were granted bail. The 38-year-old man will appear in Liverpool Local Court on 2 November this year while the 16-year-old boy is due to appear in Parramatta Children’s Court on 3 November.
They were issued with bridging visas and the third man was detained in immigration detention.
Further inquiries revealed that more people suspected of being unlawful non-citizens were staying in a caravan park on the Hume Highway, Bass Hill.
At about 4pm on the same day, police attended this location and detained a 27-year-old woman, a 24-year-old woman, and five children.
The 27-year-old woman was charged with one count of dealing with property suspected to be proceeds of crime and six counts of giving false information to a licensee.
She was granted conditional bail and will appear in Liverpool Local Court on 2 November this year. The two women and children were issued with bridging visas.
