preparation of ready-made canvases?

    Hi all,
    Do the ready-made canvases sold in art shops need any preparation before painting?

    I use a base coat of Gesso on mine, I find it helps give a better surface for painting on and means you aren't using as much paint to cover the surface.. but it is entirely up to you.
