I'm looking for an app that will use location to turn my wifi on when I am home, but turn it off when I leave - as I only ever use Wifi at home. I heard a few apps like Locale etc can do this, but the app is not cheap and its very tricky to set up apparently. Are there any other more simple apps that just do this?

Juice defender will learn your wifi locations and turn it on/off for you

Tasker can do this too, tricky enough to set up but works pretty well.

I find Timerific great - free and easy to set up.

If you know roughly when you get home each day and when you leave for work etc you can get it to start WiFi. For example I use mine to turn on WiFi at 6pm and turn it off at 8am the following day when I leave for work. I also get it to turn on Bluetooth for my drive to work and also to put the phone in vibrate when I get in to work each day
Handy I suppose if you are on a fixed schedule each day but maybe not as handy if things change frequently

I had juice defender in the past and found it never got it right. Not sure why. JD begged me as it would sometimes turn off the data when I wanted it...

Tasker, and probably others have "Connection State" conditions that allow your device to switch on wifi every 5 mins (configurable), have a sniff, and if it sees the network you've configured, it'll switch on. If not it'll switch back off wifi, and check again in 5 mins...

Having said that, my preference is for a manual switch. I find Phone Weaver great, I have a profile for Home, turns on Wifi, turns off bluetooth, GPS, screen rotation etc...one click from the widget, all of the above are done. Another for the car, turns off wifi, turns on BT, GPS etc...again one click, all done. I've a couple more setup, but you get the idea :)
