    Hi All,

I'm looking for a club in the limerick area for the coming year. Has anybody any recommendations and the costs involved? I'm played most of them around but would like some feedback from members please.

    Thanks!

    limerick area?
as in anywhere within the county boundary of limerick i presume?
have you considered clubs in clare, tipperary, kerry, cork for example?

    Your choices are
    Limerick City....
Castletroy 4 grand joining fee and about 1000 per year
Limerick GC 8 grand joining fee and about 1000 per year
Rathbane no joining fee and 560 per year

    further out
Adare 1000 first year and about 800 afterwards
Bodyke (Clare) No joining fee and about 800
Ballykisteen(Tipp) No joining fee and 1050 per year

There is also Newcastle west and Shannon.

Most of these will be having AGMs in the coming weeks where they will set membership rates for next year... so not sure will these figures change...

Thanks Guys, I guess i'd look at any course with in 30min for limerick city.

Then you are looking at the first four....... I think Castletroy is the best course out of the four...

That it is! Think it maybe E4000 entrance fee and 1200 sub after that or E2000 over 5 years tho. Don't think Limerick is worth that money and Ballykisteen is a little far if you run into traffic. I like the course aswell. Adare Manor is a bit short in my opinion. Shannon is nearly an option. Any idea what the fees are like there?

you'd prob make it to east clare golf course in around 30 mins
    650 annual sub
    lively club
course is prob a 6 outa 10 overall imo
some good holes, some average holes

Nenagh might be an option too. With the motorway now it probably would take less than 40 minutes??? Last I heard fees were €700-€800. Don't know if there is a joining fee.

Now that we have separate membership threads for the Dublin & Limerick catchment areas, it would be great if other Boardsies would start separate threads for other major areas of population.
With over 400 golf clubs in the country it would be impossible to cover the entire country with one or two threads.
Would be great if we had separate threads (preferably of clubs with no Hello Money) for the Cork, Galway, Waterford, Wexford / Kilkenny, Sligo, etc. areas.
Any volunteers out there, to make things more transparent for everyone?

It's an option I wasn't thinking of. Played it a few times a few years back. Can it be wet tho in the winter?

It's a nice course but probably a bit far out. It would probably take 40 min to get out. If I was adding 1.5 hour to my round with my journey time the boss might not be to happy. Pity its on the round side of Nenagh.

Depending on which side of Limerick you are on Charleville could be an option also.

Ya the ring road would make it an option. Never actually played it. They have 27 holes out there if I'm right? Any idea what the cost would be?

I'm a member of Charleville. The 27 holes are great, you're always guaranteed 9 holes free if you just want a quiet game in the evening. Course is usually in good nick, greens are a tad soft and slow in the winter but the fairways are really lush now in the recent years. There is a driving range with a golf academy now too.

I'm pretty sure in the last couple of years they've implemented a scheme where it is a lot cheaper for the first few years as a new member. I'm also fairly sure its something like €700 a year for full membership. I'm only a student member myself, so I can't really say for sure but if you give them a ring they would be more than willing to help you out.

I'm a member. It can be a bit wet alright but rarely closes unless every other course in the vicinity is.
I find there are certain spots that because of the contours get a bit boggy but overall it holds up better than I thought it would

I'd recommend the club overall though in terms of friendliness etc as am a fairly new member myself.
We'd have quite a few members coming out from Limerick

thanks Alxmorgan, what's the member ship cost out there? How easy is it to get a round during the day mid week?

    650 I believe

During the week is easy as pie
I've never had any hassle getting out during the week even in summer
The Sunday competitions do fill up alright but there's spots to be had if you book early and usually some come free closer to the time as people have to pull out

If you fancy a round to give it a try let me know so you can get visitors rate with a member which is only 20

I should have a complementary green fee if ye need it.

Thanks for the offers guys. I just might take ye up on It. It's still probably 40 min driving time out so its probably not going to work for me long term. Might give it a trial run tho.

Any changes or updates to the membership situations in the Limerick area? This recession is certainly causing changes to be made.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 468 ✭✭dines08

Shannon works out around €22 a week

Newcastlewest are open to discussion I understand, but have no details apart from that and Shannon costs 2000 Hello money and 930 per year afterwards. Not sure if any changes have been made for this year elsewhere.

The hello money is payable over ten years which makes it €1139 a year payable over 10 months.

NCW are €900 (including annual sub) for the first 40 memberships? €1000 after that.

That's pretty good - nice course too, even if no play on fairways during winter.

East Clare have kept rates at 650 for this year too btw

ballykisteen is €899. This includes 200 in the bar and also gives you membership of the leisure centre. Golf 12 mths of the year there as well
