Thoughts on car(passat)

    Looking for a car for the girlfriend to commute in,and something for us to have for long drives, other vehicle is a landcruiser,

    i have been looking at 6 speed vw diesels and came across this

    she does alot of mileage (naas to dun laoghire daily), and this is to do us for maybe ten months, any oter ideas or suggestions

    Well its a UK import for a start (sport alloys and 6-speed box). If it has a three spoke steering wheel and 6disk in dash cd changer - its a sport model which was not sold in Ireland.
    So, unless the "1 lady owner" brought it with her from the UK, there would be more than one owner.
    I would also doubt the mileage - Passats of that vintage are very popular for being clocked.
    I had one and the 6-speed box had to be replaced @ ~64,000 miles. Also known to be very soft. First thing I would do is make sure the service history is water tight, re mileage gaps etc.
    Looks fresh in the one pic but I would have my doubts, sorry.
    Also, over priced.

    so the 6 speed box is soft?

    i hate looking for cars!

    She does around 800 kms a week, just want something decent for little money to do her for ten months or so!

    TBH, you could have avoided a lemon there.....

    Do a search on Dondeal.ie with a limit on your price, and specify Diesel in the "more car search options".
    See what comes up and takes your fancy.
    Post the links back here - 800km a week would justify a diesel all right but if it is only for 10 months, I assume that you don't want any maintenance costs in that period.
    This could limit your options when it comes to a diesel.
