Question to current to iPhone owners. I'm wondering if people feel it worth the upgrade.

edit – should have put an option for "yes, never had an iPhone", but don't know how to edit polls :/

Currently have a 3G pretty much since release... and it's driving me nuts, it's clearly getting slower, the silent switch broke off ages ago, alarms dont work anymore.... it's just due an upgrade at this stage

Not sure if I'll just go for the iP4 or will I jump to the 4S though, depends on the pricing of both and what I can afford!

Already upgraded from my iPhone 4 :D

I wonder what kind of price the upgrades will cost, currently with 3 and about 6 months into my iP4 contract.

OP, why did you hide the poll results?

Poll fail :o I thought I was just hiding the names of votes, not the results. I'll request it changed.

Are u happy with it? Did u say there was s screen issue or is it ok?
I'm using a 3GS and am having second thoughts about the 4S.
I may pick up a 4 cheap or pay the big money for the 4s.

thinking about it,...of depends on whether Siri gets released for Ireland etc or whether you can unlock it..
IOS5 has bought some pretty impressive speed boost to ip4 and especially memory wise so the ip4 would do for another while yet if I fancied it..

The upgrade to IOS5 has seriously fnucked up my 3GS. Lost all my data (including contacts) but got them back eventually.

Phone still won't sync correctly and I cannot get my music and videos back onto the phone. Only got 85% of my apps back as well (all are in iTunes).

I am due an upgrade but I will be waiting to see what Google brings on Wednesday with the Nexus Prime and my jump for the first time to Android. We'll see.

I like it in every way over the 4.

Regarding the screen, everyone I show the screen to thinks it loos better. I'm still on the fence about it.

It is brighter tan my previous 4.

Not gonna upgrade this time, unless Vodafone virtually throw one at me.

Yep, I'm waiting for the mythical iPhone 5, which hopefully will be a Summer release. :)

I would seriously consider it if I was able to stay on my current tariff. If not there's no chance I will

getting one free the day they arrive in Ireland. the joys of being a business user, hehe.

will put the iphone4 next to my 3GS and Samsung Galaxy tab that are idle in my bedside locker.

Both changes made to the poll.

Have a 3Gs at the moment and contract with o2 is finished in December so will buy a sim free model from Apple and take a sim only plan with 3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,824 ✭✭✭floggg

I guess it would depend if your on a 3GS or a 4 how much value you'd get out of the upgrade.

I'll happily stick with my 4 until next year when contract expires and either get a pimped out ip5 or go back to android if the ip5 underwhelms.

Out of curiosity, why? What's the attraction over the 4 for you.

i just like having the latest thing, it's nothing to do with it being apple
the iphone is the only apple product i own

i voted no as i have a 4. BUT, i have 2 accounts with Meteor and there due to upgrade in Feb, so i MAY upgrade one account for a 4S and then late next year upgrade the other for a new iPhone then and pass the 4S to the other half. Depends on price etc as im on a family and friends offer so the advertised prices mean nothing to me :(

It might have been interesting to break out the 'No' options into
    'No, I have a 3Gs'
'No, I have an iPhone 4'
'No, I have an Android phone'
'No, I have an Win Phone 7'

Just to get a better idea why people are not thinking about moving on.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,264 ✭✭✭✭jester77

I have a 4 and don't think I will. Siri is something that I would disable straight away, don't really need the extra power & the better camera would be nice to have. The only think it really has that is tempting me is the 64 GB.

I'm thinking no. They must have been working on the next gen all along (in conjunction with the "4S") as otherwise what have they been doing for 18 months?

If I thought it was going to be a year I'd upgrade (as the missis wants my 4) and do the same next Autumn. As it is, I don't want to upgrade and not be offered another upgrade in, say, June/July of next year because it's only 7/8 months since the last one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,472 ✭✭✭✭Blazer

have the 4 and contract is nearly up so thinking about it.
Plus the fact that I just got it unlocked I'd probably get around €400 for it..
I might just hand on till March to see if one gets released then with the ipad3

I have a 3GS and I have no plans to upgrade to either a 4 or 4S as my phone is working well. I don't see anything spectacularly different about the 4 or 4S that would make me want to change.

Perhaps in the future if my music collection gets bigger it will be desirable to move to the 4S 64GB model but I still have a few GB of space on my 3GS and I'm not buying that much music either so I don't expect to run out of space in the near future.

Have a 4, dont see the point in upgrading

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,033 ✭✭✭Slippin Jimmy

Just going to wait until the iPhone 5 comes out. I have the 4 at the moment and don't feel that there are any significant differences between the 4 and 4s. I couldn't see myself using siri.

I have an unlocked 4 and I see no reason to upgrade. Siri won't be Ireland specific on launch and even when/if it does, certain features won't be specific. Faster processor means nothing given there is nothing I need a faster processor for

Also if I recall from when the 3GS was launched, the 4 was available within a year and many people with the 3GS weren't eligible for upgrade on launch.

I'm undecided about whether to upgrade, but leaning strongly towards "nope". I have a 3GS so the 4S would be a pretty good upgrade for me, but I can't really justify the expense at the moment. iOS 5 is running well enough on my 3GS, so I'll probably get a new battery and hold on to it for another year.

Not worth it. Happily out of contract on my 3gs, Im going to hold out for a smartphone that offers useful new features before i sign up for another contract. Wouldnt even dream of buying one on pay as you go,...anyone that spends 600 quid straight up for a phone is insane

    That's what I figured.

Most networks aren't going to offer upgrades less than 12 months after a previous upgrade - regardless of when the iPhone release dates are. Upgrade now and you might be looking at November 2012 before you can upgrade to a proper hardware refresh that may appear next Summer.

Don't you end up spending more if you go on a contract???

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 11,582 ✭✭✭✭TheZohanS

Nope. Bought an iPhone 4 outright last year and the 4S doesn't seem like a big enough upgrade to me. I'll wait to see the 5, and if that's worth the upgrade I'll pick that up. To be honest unless Apple introduce a bigger screen or longer lasting battery I'm not all that bothered, the iPhone 4 is a good phone as it is.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 29 bradshawfella

I have the Iphone4 32gb and its nearly full with all my music and a few guitar apps. I assume we're getting the 64gb version here too. I'll be grabbing one if we are. Not looking forward to seeing the price on it!!! Hopefully carphone warehouse are doing decent trade in prices on the Iphone 4.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,384 ✭✭✭Eire Go Brach

Well I need 64 gb. Held of getting the 4 because it was only 32 gb.

Disappointed there was no new design. But I reckon I will get the 4s. But now Im leaning towards getting it from Apple at full Price. Feel crazy doing it. But at least I can get the cheapest tariff and best one for me. Plus I will be defo selling it. So all in all Im hoping it will be cheaper over 12 months for me.

So then I can upgrade to the 6th Generation iPhone. With the New design. I can't call it the iphone 5. As I don't believe apple will call there 6th generation phone a 5.

I'm very happy with my 3gs but I could use some more memory. I'm due an upgrade next march so, depending on how much it costs with an upgrade i might get one then.

This is my first contract with vodafone so I have no idea how much an upgrade will actually cost me.

  • Moderators, Music Moderators Posts: 3,793 Mod ✭✭✭✭eeloe

I currently have a 32gb iPhone 4, and the only reason i'll be upgrading is my dad want's an iPhone, and doesn't care which one, and he is due an upgrade on his account, so i'll be getting a 32/64gb iPhone 4s, depends on pricing as to which model i'll get, and i'll be giving him my iPhone 4!
