Classic SAAB 900 Documentary

Dear fellow SAAB 900 classic owners,

As you are well aware, there is something quite special about a classic SAAB 900 - the look, the feel, the sound, the crisp handling, the cavernous boot space, the comfortable heated seats, the Swedish solidity...and eventually, even the sagging ceiling cloth.

Top Gear say the SAAB 900 is "A car with an image so immaculate it could hold confession and communion, a car that nice people drive. Driven by upright, decent, professional types, who cherish them, service their SAABs on the dot, and don't drive like psychopaths."

My own view is that SAAB drivers are quirky, artistic, lateral thinkers and somewhat off center.

Let me introduce myself: my name is Joshua. I'm a twenty-two year old student in IADT, the National Film School of Ireland and I'm in the 3rd year of my BA degree in Film & Television Production.

I come from a Saab obsessed family. It all started when my grandfather bought his first Saab in the early 1980's, which he gave to my mum when he was buying himself a new (Saab) car. Since then, we have 'collected' and even 'adopted' them and usually, we would have at least three on the road, at any one time.

Of the five we have at the moment, three are driving, one is a bit the worse for wear and hasn't been out and about for a while and one is kept to supply parts for the others and is affectionately called the 'Donor KeSaab'.

Some have been purchased in the normal fashion, one was given to us by a Polish guy in return for a bottle of Vodka and one was donated to us by its sentimental previous owner, as she wanted to see it go to a good home.

Having grown up being driven around in Saab's, I am now a proud Saab driver myself and as a student film-maker, I want to make a short documentary film, telling people's 'individual Saab' stories. Please agree to tell me yours.

If you are interested please get in contact as I would truly love to record your views on your beautiful old Saab 900.

I look forward to hearing from you (as soon as possible please), as our college lecturers are cracking the whip and expecting us to have our 3rd year project 'in the can' before the end of term.

    Best wishes,

    JoshSAAB900
