I bought two part worn tyres from Walkinstown tyres for 90 euro today.

Suggest you call them and ask. Tyres had about 6.5mm thread left compared to a new depth of 8mm.

A guy in Waterford, his name escapes me, does high quality (Michelin, Continental, Bridgestone etc) for about 90E a pair fitted. Don't skimp on tyres whatever you do. Most of the Chinese rubbish will last for years but it won't grip when you need it most. And before anyone jumps in and says it makes no difference, "shur I stay within the speed limits", I had my worst experience at less than 30kph coming when the Triangle shod Honda Jazz I was driving kept on going and ended up half way across the road at a t-junction. The road was damp but that shouldn't have happened.
The standard of new tyre generally sold in this country is woeful. It'd help if the RSA spoke up about this instead of incessantly ranting on about "Speed Kills" and the like.

Edit - I think it's called Sealant Tyres.

Did the Jazz have ABS? Just curious. My Polo has firestones on it at the moment and they're pretty good, but it doesn't have ABS, so heavy braking in the wet can get hairy. This doesn't happen often, but still, i'm always concious of it.

No, it's a great car, my mother's, but it don't got ABS which is a big failing and all the more reason to have decent tyres. It was far from heavy braking!

@Amanda - You know all the good brands I'm sure and for 160 you'll get a decent set of tyres if the size is average. I found Hankooks very good too but that's just my experience.

    That sounds ultra cheap.
Are these new tyres are part worn?

Too cheap. €90 a pair? I pay more than that a piece for Kingstar!

I'd safely say they are part worn.. Most of the partworn prices seem to be €45 for a 17 or 18 inch tyre.

OP thats a fairly standard size in all fairness..

    Have a look at these:

You will need to factor in fitting at approx 10/15 euro each also.

Have these on my car at present and find them very good.

give larry guinnan in waterford a ring, he is probably the most honest fella around and should look after you, wouldnt go passed him for a set of tires or having a puncher fixed. give him a bell and he will try order your tyres to suite your budget.
