    Very jealous!

Since they are flying in and out of Shannon a game in Shannon GC must be arranged. IMO one of the best courses in Clare.

Wow, That's some itinerary, but it would be remiss of me not to advise you to visit Ballyliffen while in Donegal (pure class) and also Rosapenna (Sandy Hills) I would advise is a most difficult course and next to unplayable if the wind is up. I hope you have a most enjoyale trip.

Thats some trip allright i cant say i envy the 5 hour drive to donegal from shannon.

Would they be better playing co.sligo enniscrone then Enniscoe as they will have to drive past these from donegal then back again so it saves on the driving

Only thing I would say is consider Dooks instead of Tralee, but fair play to them thats a marathon trip ..... oh to have the energy and the cha-ching :D

Great trip but it will be some fun driving a bus around some of the roads in Donegal, So i would like to volunteer my services will work for room and green fees.:D

As Dtoffee points out, they're missing out on Dooks (photos), which has the best scenery of any course in the country... just ahead of Tralee, so I wouldn't suggest ditching Arnold Palmer's course (which I imagine is another attraction for them).

And I'm surprised to see they haven't got Doonbeg on there... could be interchanged with Spanish Point as they're almost beside each other. In fairness, I know little about Spanish Point. And great to see Mulranny mentioned - probably my favourite 9 hole course in the country.

I stayed at Enniscoe House a few years back on a stag - a fantastic old place and there's a real Irish pub up the road: Leonard's in Lahaurdaun (aka Lahardane). If they like a touch of history, the local parish experienced the largest proportionate loss of any locality when the Titanic sank - of the 14 who boarded, only 3 survived. I know - not exactly upbeat.

My only other comment is that they're taking on one hell of a drive from Shannon to Rosapenna - it's 'only' 225 miles, but that's 5 and a half hours on our roads. Would they not stay the night in Sligo on the way up, play golf at Rosses Point or Murvagh, and break up their journey.

Whatever courses they play, they'll have a cracking time. That is one superb itinerary.

They have plenty of parkland courses in America thst why they come here to play links golf.

spanish point is a glorified pitch and putt course
embarrassed that someone included that course to be honest
we need to be putting our best foot forward here with the yanks

A drive to Donegal from Shannon on the wrong side of the road after getting off an overnight flight? Why not do a bit around Clare first? Doonbeg would have to be done.

Might be worth picking them up a a copy of Tom Coyne's book, A Course called Ireland. He seemed to do a similar links-centric trip around around Ireland albeit he got over the 5 hour trip to Donegal by walking it . If nothing else it's a good way to kill a few hours on the flight over and whet the appetite at the same time.

What a trip. They should reconsider the drive from Shannon to Donegal on day 1. Taking on that drive after a flight from the States would be dangerous in my book. Have driven from Shannon to Cork 3 times after transatlantic flights and each time was very difficult.

The problem with that drive on day 1 is that they will be exhausted for the following few days and it might take from the whole experience.

Having said all that I am extremely jealous

    Great trip!

Agree about the driving though - I don't think most Americans realise how poor the roads are in the majority of the country - they won't be using much of the motorway network on their stay. Its not the length but the tiring nature of it - nevermind adding jet lag.

By way of illustration, I had some American cousins over for the first time a few years ago (before the motorways) and their itinerary included day trips to the Giants Causeway and Kilkenny from their Galway base :D

I think with a bit of planning they could make it all much easier for themselves. Still jealous though.

10 days in a row on arrival, with the driving and travelling round. Playing links golf at the end of September??? Me thinks that's a bit unrealistic. They should reduce the number of courses they are playing.

I would concentrate on Galway, Clare, Kerry, Cork maybe. (Connemara, Galway Bay, Lahinch, Doonbeg, Dromoland Castle, Ballybunion Old, Cashen, Tralee, Dooks, Killeen, O'Mahonys Point, Ceann Sibeal, Dooks, Waterville, Fota Island, Old Head of Kinsale. There's 16 top courses in fairness. Only 5 parkland courses and 11 links.

Do Carne, Sligo, Donegal some other time. There's 16 courses in Donegal and Sligo that would constitute another trip. I reckon there's a case of trying too much too soon.

I joined Carne start of the year. Went up last 2 weeks of February for golf. I was blessed with the weather. Blue skies and sunshine every single day up there, bar one day when it lashed rain. I played 8 days in a row and I couldn't get outta bed I was so tired on the ninth day. That was 18holes a day and no driving/travelling around. I'd go 4 days of golf and a break. More manageable and they'd enjoy it more.

Imagine golfing for the 9th or 10th day and turning up in Tralee or Waterville. Wrecked tired by 10th hole. Cut out the travelling and break the itinerary into two trips if possible.

i hope none of these americans hear about or already know about the american village in west clare, commonly referred to as Doonbeg by the locals
    idiotic to leave this out

When you are up in the direction of Downings, Rosapenna GC it would be a shame to miss out on the opportunity of playing in Portsalon Golf Club. Its one of the hidden gems of Links golf and a real treasure. Have a look at the website and see if you could fit it in. Enjoy your trip. www.portsalongolfclub.ie

Rosses Point is an hour from Enniscrone. Perhaps they should stay in Rosses Point in Thursday, September 22. The Radisson is just outside Rosses Point and it quite nice. Then head over to Enniscrone after playing Rosses.
