Outer Barrel question (Specific to TM I think)

    Here's the problem:

I'm putting a shorter outer barrel on my M4 to accommodate the extra length being added by purchasing a silencer. (The AEG is long as is, and with the added length of a silencer it becomes incredibly difficult to manoeuvre.)
I need to buy an outer barrel that has a groove cut out of it to accommodate the 8.4v mini battery that current sits in the RAS hand-guard of my AEG.

The TM M4 S-system holds its battery in the front RAS hand-guard and the stock outer barrel (Which I believe is 14") has a groove cut out of it to allow the battery to fit. (See the attached picture.)

Anyone have any ideas? I really don't want to rewire my AEG if at all possible as everything works brilliantly as is. If it ain't broke and all that.

Or just cut the same groove into the new barrel?

unfortunately you can not pick up s turned down outer-barrel to make using a battery in a ris easier ( always found this strange, would be a nice product ) you can find some like the one in the picture on stock aegs, i believe that is an ssystem?

there are some lipos that will fit will drag up some links

other option is to contact a machine shop and have them turn down the existing barrel

Any idea how difficult this actual is? I don't have any machine experience, nor do I know how rugged outer barrels for airsoft guns tend to be.

I'm thinking of buying a 10.5" barrel, to replace the current 14" one and will need to cut the grove in. Know anyone/anywhere with experience milling air soft equipment?

Dremel + cutting wheels + sanding wheel + half hour or so = grooved barrel.

So, for example, this barrel- http://shop.ehobbyasia.com/dytac-10-5inch-cqb-outer-barrel-assemble-for-marui-m4-black.html

Do you know anywhere I could take it to have the suggested work done, Lefty?

I am open to correction on this, but cutting a groove into a barrel in order to make room for a battery shouldn't require a huge amount of work. You could literally just file the bejaysus out of it.

Most of us here would be recommending that you do the work yourself. Far cheaper, and path of least resistance...although you may find people willing to do the work for you. Most jobs like this tend to be self-done though.

You can pick up a dremel fairly cheaply, and it is an incredibly handy tool to have, but you can do it with other tools

I would have assumed that filing it would be a complete redundant endeavour and would get me no-where. Am I right to assume that these barrels aren't that sturdy?

Depends on the barrel to be honest. I mean, steel barrels will obviously be significantly more resistant to being filed, but all materials will eventually cave with pressure and time.

Using a dremel you can can cut into the barrel, and more effectively carve your groove into the barrel.

An interesting prospect... I'll look into. Cheers.
