    paper cut.

But really, Ive never injured myself badly before. :)

Edit: Actually I remember when I was like 2 or 3 I tried to climb on top of the cistern of the toilet and fell off. Busted me head and had to get 1 stitch.

Testicular torsion. Happened before a date, sat through Little Miss Sunshine while my ball was dying.

She brought me back to her apartment afterwards, and I left 3 minutes after arriving. Thought I was going to die!

When I was ten i got my foot jammed under a door (someone slammed it shut as I was attempting to run through it), ripped the nails off my two biggest toes and an awful lot of skin came off with it - not pleasant!

Was stabbed in the cock once, grand now.

I cycled into an opening door of a parked car, many moons ago!!!! It was not a pretty sight as I launched myself over the car door onto the road!!!! My face was a mess (some would say, still is) and my nose still bears the scars many years later!!!!

Other than that injury, I came through the windscreen of an overturned car which was going at speed, might I add......with little or no blood injuries!!! The bike incident was worse!!!!

Now I must go away and cry.....just thinking about it!!!!!

Dislocated my kneecap playing rugby. The lad that tackled me stood on my foot and as I twisted to pop the ball off my knee came out of place.

Broke my wrist and fractured my lower arm in 2 places when a taxi pulled out in front of me on my motorbike.

Had my jaw broken also in primary school when I got a punch off a traveller in my class.

broken leg [femur] when in junior infants, we were jumping off steps then most decided it would be great to jump and create a pile of us at the bottom, pile on style

Dislocated my elbow a few years ago and had to have it pinned back together. Still can't fully extend my arm and took a long time for me to be able to bend my arm enough to touch my shoulder with my hand. So that was pretty bad!

It happened when the horse I was riding became startled and refused a jump at the last second and threw me off.

not an injury but a fast tennis serve that went straight to the balls was excruciating.

Thumb broken after a hurley hit it full pelt. It got so swollen it looked like a puffy sausage roll.

Ran into a door in primary school (we'd run from the door to the grass + back, but normally stopped ourselves w/ our hands - my face hit it + chipped the tooth), chipped one o the 2 top center teeth - supposedly barely missed the nerve.

    snapped banjo string

a lot of blood and severe pain

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 395 ✭✭Simon Adebisi

Cycling along and fell against a pebbledashed wall. Broke 2 of my fingers and my knuckle bones were on display. Blood pissing down my arm.

A friend of mine has a great one though. Him and his brother were playing tig on their farm years ago. They accidently clashed heads and the friend was left conked on the ground and the other brother ran home crying. He woke up and blood was pumping out of his mouth. The brother got home and his mother saw the that other brothers tooth was embedded in his forehead.

Nothing too serious, but definitely one disgusting one.

I stubbed my big toe badly once and it hurt for quite a while but I thought it was nothing to worry about.

Then after a while I noticed that it seemed to be infected near the base of the nail where it meets the toe. I kept applying disinfectant and putting on new plasters, but it didn't seem to do much good. After about a week or two, I took the plaster off and noticed what I thought was the usual infected gunk near the base of the nail. But looking closer, I noticed that it was actually a hole in the nail.

I realised what happened: when I stubbed my toe, it pushed the nail back into the skin, and lifted the nail partly from where it was attached. The nail was now (mostly) dead and it sticking into the skin was causing the infection (or else the smelly gunk was just from it being dead). There was a new nail growing under the old nail.

The only problem was that though the old nail was dead, it was still mostly attached, particularly in the centre of the nail, and was therefore stopping the new nail from growing properly.

    So what did I do?

I pulled off my big toenail.

Suffice it say, it hurt. A lot. Psychologically speaking, it was hard to make myself do it, as my brain was stopping me from hurting myself so it was hard to really commit to really pulling it off hard.

But eventually after about half an hour or more, I managed to completely rip the nail off, the new nail grew, and has served me well these past few years :).

    Broken ankle

Was running down the stairs in a pair of tracksuit bottoms (the ones with no elastic at the leg bottoms) a few weeks back and tripped over them, hit the ground and heard a crunch, then my foot was pointing completely to the left.

Having to twist it back was the worst part :(

As a result of receiving a sliding tackle in a soccer match, I broke leg, broke & dislocated ankle and tore all tendons and ligaments going down the back of my leg in to ankle - ended up with a plate and 5 screws in same... it hurt.

I could say coming off a bike in Thailand and having 11 stitches in my foot but I think I'll go with when I sat on a pair of scissors. :o

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 2,857 ✭✭✭Reloc8

Eye smashed and cut open above and below (stamped in the head playing rugby). 30 odd stitches external, another 40 or 50 internal. Lucky to keep the eye.

Also smashed in two of my knuckles again playing rugby - probably more painful but less serious.

Not an injury as such but when i was 13 months i tipped over a tea pot of tea over myself. Got 3rd degree burns over about 25% of my body. Spent months in hosp the first time and probably operations every year up to the age of 12 or 13. Have to be careful now in the sun cos my legs come out in squares all over where the skin grafts were taken.

Made a good recovery though oh and also broke my back in 2 places in 07 now that was painful work doc thought it was a pulled muscle and referred me for physio for a month didn't get an xray till 6 weeks after accident and brace for 6 months after that, i was very lucky there cos fractures were stable. Had to give up on physical work after that, currently retraining and upskilling

I had a freak accident in May which ended up with me in the hospital with bad burns all over my feet, legs and my right hip. F*cking horrible pain, and the bandages I was given were awful, walking was a nightmare. Longest 2 weeks ever. In the same instance I separated my right shoulder - couldn't move at all without crying! Still hurts, but was told surgery would be more trouble than it's worth.

Fractured skull. Dropped on my head.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,130 ✭✭✭Azureus

Fractured ankle in a few places-fell off a wall, friend tried to catch me, only managed to grab my ankle and it went snap with the weight of my body. Was 6 weeks in a cast etc-not so bad, although it was the middle of summer and I was suposed to be going to London for a ballet summercamp the week after it happened. Bad buzz.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,803 ✭✭✭El Siglo

Broke my leg in two places (shin and ankle), had to have an operation to have it fixed and had a plate put in. Was in hospital for about 10 days, was in a few casts for about 3 months. It was absolute agony.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 283 ✭✭volvoman480

Dislocated and broke my ankle, severed ligaments, torn tendon and broke my fibula in two places. Had two screws through my ankle to immobilise it, and got a plate with five screws in the leg. Recently had the two in my ankle taken out thank God and can now walk again. I've a nice limp for my troubles though and a few cool scars. Amazing what you can do when you slip on a manhole cover. That was last May and I'm still off work.

As a young fella, I broke both ankles and tore ligaments in consecutive years. When I was fourteen, I had my right hip repaired, the ball joint separated and had to be screwed back in to place. Missed most of a year at school and didn't put my right foot on the ground for nine months.

Other than that I'm grand, not a mark on me..

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 4,822 ✭✭✭sunflower27

Not an injury as such, but by far it was the cutting of my gum, yanking out of two wisdom teeth and the gum being stitched up again. The most horrrific pain of my life and all I was given for the pain was nurofen.

I ended up going to me dentist begging for serious painkillers.

    Utter agony.

Have been pretty lucky, really. Other than that, just appendix out and a broken foot that wasn't too bad if I didn't put any pressure on it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,178 ✭✭✭✭NothingMan

Went over the handlebars on my bike when I was 10. Skidded on the right side of my face for a few metres and bike came up on top of me. Face looked like 2 face for a few months and I smashed the nerve in my front teeth and made a fair few of them crooked. Only other mark on me was a little scrape on my knee so I literally skidded on just my face.

    No pictures aywhere :(.

Also broke my 5th metacarpal (pinky) in June when I mis-hit a punching bad arcade game on holidays but I don't really remember that one so it doesn't count right? Was funny the next day walking down the strip and everyone asking how my hand was and all I was thinking was "who the hell are you?". My knuckle where it meets my hand is now pushed back and a little twisted which makes my pinky rest on my ring finger when I make a fist. Ah Jager, we have such a love/hate relationship.
