how did boards start??

was just pondering how did boards first come about? who set it up... considering it's run by mods which are regular ppl like u and me, and its a self efficient site and all that jazzz.... its one of the more popular sites on the irish based interweb as well imo..... with such a vast variety of forums as well, something for everyone from Ah to ART to personal issues, ect..... intrigued ....:pac:

Yep, Cloud and DeVore were the original daddies (soon to be joined by Regi, Ecksor and Vexorg).

It originally started as a couple of forums for Quake players, but neither DeVore nor Cloud could ever leave well enough alone, and now look what they're responsible for!! :pac:

It was a bet.
There were great restrictions on what domains could be registered with .ie. DeVore bet cloud that he could get the domain boards.ie registered. If DeVore won, Cloud would build the site. He won the bet by registering a business called boards, thus entitling him to the domain name.

Any time I pass Cloud's office I mentally thank him for boards and NUIG's sinboards. Though the latter are pretty dead

I always thought it was similar to how they made Hyrule in Zelda or Hogwarts in Harry Potter. Four godlike people put their skills together and made boards.ie but there was one evil one out of the four who most likely created After Hours.

For accuracy: DeV actually changed the name of his company in the CRO from Spin Solutions to Boards for just one day and nabbed the .ie on that basis.
