Is this happening for anyone else? I have character count activated but it doesn't seem to appear in the message pane as normal.

EDIT: Ignore this. I figured out the character count doesn't appear until you're on the second line of text.

    brophs,

Surprised you haven't had any replies to your query.

Just got my iPhone 4s yesterday and whaddya know, character counter doesn't work.

I don't like paying for texts, so I watch this like a hawk. Surprised there hasn't been more discussion about it.

Anyone got an with a 4s/iOS5 combo that has the same problem, or has a solution?

    Thanks.

    D.

Like the OP said, it doesn't appear until the second line of text. Have you character count enabled in Settings > Messages?

Also, there's obviously no character count for iMessages.

By Messages, I mean the green icon with the white speech bubble in it.

Are you saying there's no character count for this? I'm assuming not. (Not sure what iMessages is/are  )

But, if we are both talking about Messages and there should be character count, well no there isn't for me, regardless of the number of lines of type. And, yes, I have Character Count switched on in Settings.

    Thanks for the reply.

iMessages are messages sent to other iPhones running iOS 5. It's built into the Messages app and works automatically unless disabled. There's a sticky about it at the top of the forum.

That might be the reason then. I only got the phone yesterday and gave the 3Gs to my wife - both are running iOS5.

    Problem solved, I guess.

    Thanks.

Do you get a character count when typing texts to a non-iPhone contact?
