Quit my job today.

My boss went away yesterday. They'd started to sand one part of the bar. I thought I'd be helpful, as there was nothing to do, and finish off the sanding and varnish it. I went into her flat (above the pub) and used her hairdryer/sanding tool to try and complete the job.

I went too far into the wood with the sanding tool and took off a bit of wood, leaving it dented and uneven.

It wasn't my intention to cause any upset or damage. I was just trying to be helpful.

I checked my phone this morning and received a text from my boss that she'd sent last night (obviously after getting back). She is fuming, saying that her bar is severely damaged and her privacy has been invaded.

I was suppose to work today, but she said that she has lost all trust and is going to work today instead and will speak to me properly once she has calmed down.

I text her back and told her that I was very sorry, and that I was only trying to help. I also said that it is best for both sakes that I don't come back.

This isn't the reason I've left, but because I still haven't been paid from last month and I can't work somewhere where I never get paid on time. There are many other issues.

I got very upset earlier and cried. I told her to take my wages from this month to repair any damage.

This is more of a place to get my feelings out rather than ask for advice.

You'll be lucky if you don't get hit with charges for burglary and/or criminal damage.

I think you were completely in the wrong in the example you gave, you don't just wander into someone's gaff and take their stuff, nor should you do damage to their property by doing something you're not asked/qualified to do.

But if she's not paying you then fcuk her, you should have fcuked up her bar some more.

Be aware though that you can't get the dole for like 13 weeks or something since you quit and weren't fired.

Typical barman ,totally unfit for practical work .( but that's why you are a barman LOL !!!)

Shouldn't have tried to help unless you knew what you were doing tbh.

Thank you for being supportive guys.

I got really upset and cried when she text me because I know I'd done wrong, but I was only trying to help and keep myself busy.

She is lucky I even turned up to work as I'm working into the next month when I haven't even been paid for the first yet.

The hairdryer makes the surface warm so it's easier to get off.

I don't want to claim dole.

    I hopefully never will.

I've been looking for a new job recently anyway and applied for one yesterday.

You should get your dole sorted straight away....just go in with a hair dryer and threaten to wreck their counters until they give it to you.

    Not many people do.

What have you been living off while you weren't being paid anyway?

I would forgive someone for messing up a job.
What made you think that you could walk into someones abode,
and start looking around, I mean you would have to have a good look
    to find a hair dryer.

You are crying over a job in which you haven't got paid for in the last month?

    Do you enjoy misery?

    Both require intent to damage.

You did a months work for the gheebag and she didn't pay you a cent.
You should of trashed her whole apartment. And stole the plans/design for her futuristic hairdryer-sanding device.

Tommy go to the dole and tell them u quit because you have'nt been paid in over a month.

You did the right thing quitting just because its a reccession people should'nt have to work in places were they are not happy.

Go back in next week in a fake 'tach and glasses and present her with your card for your new career, which says "Tommy, French Polisher and Hairdresser To The Stars", then offer to sort out her wonky bar and give her a new do. She won't know it's you until you've left both in a terrible state by bleaching the bar and sanding the head off her. That'll learn 'er!

Sanding is no job for a girl.

She'd have been better stocking the bar up with sandwiches for the weekend.

Who did you suck off to become a moderator? I'm far more suitable for the role.

Jesus, no wonder she's pissed off...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,910 ✭✭✭Sisko

Of course the boss would freak at that, you entered her home!

Just chalk it down to life experience - you should have known better, but at least you do now anyway.

Sounds like you should have gotten out of there sooner though if you were not being paid. That's pretty dodgy. You probably would have left the job anyway at some stage even if this incident had not happened. So maybe its a blessing in disguise kinda thing..

So,you're out 2 months pay (1 unpaid - last month, 1 offered - this month)?
