My son updated his iphone to ios 5 but iTunes won't activate it. According to his model number MC603B/A it was supposed to be factory unlocked but it appears he needs a UK sim as it's a UK purchased iphone. Can anyone help?

if it was bought in the Apple store UK as a factory unlocked unit, then you dont need a UK sim at all.

    maybe unplug and try again.

There does seem to be some dispute over the whether model numbers signify unlocked or not. I couldn't see why some would be, personally.

There are instructions online if you search about how you can cut a SIM card down to a micro SIM.

Does it definately need to be a UK sim, though? I didnt think It was possibly to country-lock a phone, only network lock it.
