Hi guys - I was wondering if we could begin to compile a list of venues/events/nights around the country that are looking for an welcoming to artists playing original music? I don't know if there already is one, forgive this post if that is the case - but I think it would be helpful to have! Thanks!

    Paid or unpaid?

Good point, should've clarified that. Paid gigs, yeah. Fee or percentage either way. :)

Very little up the northern end of the country anyway. Stables in Mullingar is a good spot. They'll give you a date there alright, but you have to make your own money out of the place. Works on commission basically. More people in, more you get paid. Drawback being, you have to make more than 100 quid or 150 quid to make money because the sound engineer has to be paid out of the gates first.

Maybe this should have been stickied or added to the resources or something: http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=67792601
    Needs to be updated anyway.

For original bands in Kilkenny: Billy Byrne's, Cleere's, and The Pumphouse would be the main three. Also Murphy's and Carroll's in Thomastown.

How god a crowd do you usually pull in when not in your "home venue"? Minus the sound engineers pay, and go from there.

In Galway there's the Townhouse Bar - they are pretty good about booking original bands, however with the winter setting in they've had to pull most gig slots during the week.

Of course there's the two "big" venues: The Rosin Dubh and Monroe's.

Monroes actually have 3 venues, so its well worth contacting them

I know this was posted ages ago but Stables has gone to s**t. Played there twice in last 2 years and didnt make a cent. On top of that, told to be offstage by 11.30pm then owner goes mental telling us to play till 1am demanding music. On top again theres no PA system meaning another €100 at least or more for a decent engineer. Sad thing is, it's a nice venue but wouldnt go near it at the moment! Basically you do all the work (and more) and get paid nothing. Dont like playing gigs that cost a fortune instead of being paid! :)

In Drogheda theres Mc Hughs and McPhails, two good locations for promoting original and covers bands.

It's probably safe to say most venues that take original bands, generally don't pay out... Unfortunate to be honest!
