I was there for the friday opening gig, ****in awesome it was, Ian brown in tune and flawless!! \o/. and yeah great buzz, great people no skangers bad vibes or general ****tiness, awesome sound, organisation, location and travel links to from. should have been sponsored y carlsberg really! this should go down with spike island as another LEGENDARY gig

and yeah going to PP tonight for round 2 \o/ its about 1hr from town to the gate ;) checked yesterday.

I seriously hope it's not another Spike Island for those attending.. Spike Island was one of the worst gigs I ever attended and by far the worst Roses gig by a country mile. Luckily enough, seeing the Roses in small pubs/clubs in Liverpool/Manchester etc. were by far the greatest gigs I ever attended, but the Roses outdoors in mega events have not been good in my experience, and why I decided to give this reunion a miss..

I do hope those who attend have a great time though :)
    You missed out, wonderful gig.

Great gig indeed but Brown simply can't sing. Some he sounded ok and some truly god awful. It didn't really matter though. I was sober because I didn't think the bar was worth trying but going by the condition of some people there they will probably be claiming he sang like an angel. Maybe he did from a horizontal position in the mud.

Yeah, but he never really could, could he? Pitch-perfect singing was just never the point with the roses (look at Blackpool, etc.- their greatest gigs).. Thankfully though, everything else was bang on tonight (and brown wasnt THAT bad), as tight as could be and the vibe was just electric.. Much love and respect!

Brown's sang a lot worse than last night in fairness. Mix wasn't the best with the vocals I thought.

WELL THAT WAS JUST ****IN AWESOME sorry brown was pretty much spot on and in tune alot, and squire was on fire! actually he was actually alot better than the manchester gig believe it or not! he was much more confident here, he really rocked it tonight so much more fluid jamming from squire tonight  they were tight as too, amazing show the only crap thing about it was the crowd themselves, was a bit flat  there seemed to be ALOT of songs people didnt get, only a handfull of songs did they seem to get into, seemed like there were alot of casual fans there

I had a great time and got a ticket for 30 quid, many happy returns.

I'm glad the majority of folks who attended seemed to have a very good time.

Personally I'm happy not to have attended (for various reasons).. the Roses will always be the band i fell in love with in the mid/late 80's when I lived in Liverpool.. and they were an unbelievable raw talent with swagger at the time that left every other band in their wake. 25+ years on, both them and I are a lot older ;) and it would be impossible to recreate those moments...

Sometimes the unique memories (plus the old tickets/posters/vinyl with 2.50 entrance fees to gigs i kept) are more than enough..

What a great gig! Best gig I've ever been to. Beats Paul McCartney, Blur, Arctic Monkeys, Oasis and Coldplay. Great going to a gig where you know every song and the atmosphere was electric. Right from I Wanna Be Adored as the opener you knew you were in for a good gig. And they played the entire The Stone Roses album too:)

Have you ever heard the stone roses? ever? Ian Brown is pretty much known for sounding like ****e, and no-one listens to the roses for Ian Brown

Absolutely legendary gig and I've been to a lot over the years. To all those who are moaning about this and that and left after three songs, etc...hopefully you'll decide not to buy tickets for the next one, meaning more people who actually like the band can go and see them.

The overwhelming majority of posters in the Stone Roses thread in the Gigs and Events section really loved the gig. As did I. And I'm now seriously contemplating going to Belfast to see them again in August.

You know, I've got the blues real bad haha. Can't stop thinking back to that incredible Thursday, the weather, the booze etc... Was just an amazing gig, everyone was in cracking form. Reni's drumming is a ****ing pleasure to listen to also. Thoroughly, thoroughly enjoyed it & I too am considering the jaunt up north to see them again.

John Robb says there'll be new material and another tour next year.

Michael Eavis was at one of the Heaton Park gigs too, might be on for Glasto next year:

I recall how the stone roses could barely contain their bitter envy in secretly literally wanting to be U2, so no real surprise when I read Mounfield say he was talking to Bono about playing second fiddle to em again (sic) on their next tour.

whilst that was true in the 16yr they were dormant a lot of not typically musically inclined folk adopted him as a solo 'supahstar' adidas endorsed icon these folk generally don't know hands-on musicality.. if not to hear certainly not to witness considering the electronic junk they grew up with so a major facet of musical appreciation is lost. Here in crumlin/drimnagh I only knew of folk going who got tickets for SHM, first n foremost maybe brown tweeted em sayin there was gonna be a 'rave band' on with him shaking his dildo shaped tambourine?

/I liked Squire's blues reworking of Somethings Burning, particularly in this setting but the band shines in general:

Wow way to go on the misinformation and generalisations.

Firstly Ian Brown and john Squire wanted to destroy U2. The Roses would never play support for U2. Reni has said how much he admire Mullins, but Brown said and i quote "for the record, i think U2 are bobbins" see reunion press conferance 2012.

"these folk generally don't know hands-on musicality" - who? People who supported Ian Brown when he was solo? What a load of sh*te. Music is subjective for sure and granted ian Brown's voice was never great but the guy is a supreme writer and producer. Critically acclaimed album after album has fook all to do with what runners he wears. Numerous hits says i'm right.

Your post is poorly informed and undermined by inaccuracies. Sorry but it is.
