I havent logged into mine in over 2 weeks, havent posted a status in 3 and some friends are starting to delete their account.

Has it had its day? What's the next big internet thing? Another Social Network site or something else entirely. And please no one say Google Plus, its like the programmer/conceiver dropped many, many Class A drugs ;)

People don't spend as much time on facebook, log in every two or three days.
I don't think it is as popular as it was for some people. It all depends on if you have the time to be on it.

Deactivated mine and then set it up again! It's nice to get a break from the internet once in a while.

    I'm starting to enjoy Google+

Of course it has had it's day. You've become bored with it so naturally it will fade into insignificance.

Yes and no. For many people (myself included) Facebook has lost it's draw. I've been threatening to delete my profile for ages now as I have very little interest in it.

One of the things that kept me on it was that I have a lot of friends living in different countries and it's a great way to keep in touch. Not to mention the acquaintances who you feel obligated to keep contact with without actually having to see them - come on, we all have them!

Facebook, like all of the social networking sites that have come before it is a fad, albeit an extremely successful one, but I think we'll see a situation in the next 2-3 years where people are less and less active on it and don't really engage with the site and then visit less and less frequently etc. Remember a couple of years ago when Bebo was all the rage and a company bought the site (can't remember which one though!) for a hugh sum, only for it to fall flat on its face not so long afterwards.

People will continue to join and use Facebook but my personal prediction is as above - that more people will leave, either by deleting their account or becoming less and less active on it, until their account is essentially static, until the numbers joining are far less than the numbers leaving/not visiting.

I give it 3-5 years max., although in saying that, many Facebook users will probably have defected to a different kind of social networking site and will prob still be active, while others will have given it up completely. Just my 2 cents on the matter.

    Facebook (verb)
= to talk incessantly about yourself/things which only you care about
= to self-aggrandize, to talk about your accomplishments/feelings/bowel movements with an undue degree of importance
= to re-post on the Internet generic musings which you feel apply solely and specifically to you

    Facebook (noun)
= to complete an action that displays extremely self-aggrandizing, narcissistic qualities

    (example 1)
Not enough people cared about my recent holiday so I Facebooked it.

(example 2) I was going to put my trophy on the mantlepiece but I thought it was a bit too Facebook.

(example 3) Here is a picture of my latest stool. Oh, is that a very Facebook of me?

I just using Facebook these days just for checking out friends photos from their travels. I just email people tht I i keep in regular contact.

Have a Google + account and I really can't be bothered with. Hate the way all the photos from my phone are practically uploaded onto it.

    Indeed.

Kinda like assuming everybody is interested in hearing yet another highly unique smart arse deconstruction of Facebook.

Exactly why I refused to join it. Skype is great for keeping in touch with those abroad! Message and talk!

Facebook is knocking nails in its own coffin. I utterly fail to understand why websites do this.

I am a regular user of Boards.ie and I'm sure many in this thread are too. The interface we have is absolutely brilliant, and aside from a few tweaks there isn't much I can think of to upgrade it.

Now, answer me this: Would you still be a regular Boards user if they literally moved everything around every 2 weeks? If you had to re-learn how everything works and where everything is at the start of each month?

Even worse, supposing they took something which works perfectly and utterly trashed it? Imagine if the posting interface changed from a HTML based form to some kind of Flash application which takes ages to load, crashes often, and only works on the absolute newest browser?

Finally, what if the thread list no longer showed threads in chronological order but showed some threads you often post in, and others which have recent posts, and in a totally random order?

The last two paragraphs of my post are what Facebook have done to Facebook Chat. It no longer works half the time, and when it does, it shows me a bunch of people who aren't even online at the time. What the HELL was the point of this, for example?

Facebook is destroying itself because it insists that it has to keep evolving, that at no point can it decide on a successful model and leave it alone until the users actually ASK for new features.

Every "Upgrade" to Facebook in the last 2 years has made it progressively harder and more frustrating to use the site.

I closed my facebook account last month because I was sick of the utter shíte that was posted on it. One fúcking clown was "sick" every bloody day and whinging about it, MAN UP YA CLOWN.

Another bunch of muppets were posting like this: "ya dat ws a gud nte lst nte lots of lulz, lol", ENGLISH!?! DO YOU SPEAK IT YOU FúCKING RETARD??????

The funniest post that I saw was one girl that said she was depressed and then 20 people liked it, which is odd.

So to answer the question, yes facebook is shíte.

I actually can't really stand it anymore, and would delete my account only I need it to stay in touch with a group I'm a member of (my hobby I mean, our group has a facebook page) and we do a lot of our contacting through facebook. I've won a few things from competitions on facebook too, so it's not all bad.

But as already said, I hate that they keep changing it- and I especially hate the "ticker" on the right hand side which doesn't let you so much as sneeze without everyone knowing about it straight away. I never use chat cos I don't like people knowing when I'm online and risking ending up having to ignore someone I'm not in the humour to talk to.

I do see the place for it, but more and more it's irritating the hell out of me.

Facebook is whatever you do with it. Ive noticed some of my contacts eased off on it but it was generally people who mainly used it for farmville or whatever.

You get bull****ters on it. You can defroend them or hide their crap.

I think it's a long way off dying. But their recent changes are really not helping

The only reason i keep my facebook account active is so that i can view what pictures and other cringe worthy stuff people are putting up about me.Camera's should be banned from nightclubs and pubs.Nothing worse than enjoying a nice drink until it is spoiled by some goon shoving a camera in your face:mad:

No, Facebook will be around for many years.
    Why?
...Because as much as many might leave it, there now is too many on it to fail for some time to come.

The upcoming pc users that are young teens (or younger), join it as soon as they have the knowledge and skills to do so. They will want to additionally chat, etc with their friends - and every year brings another round of new members that additionally want to join in on something so massively big. They will in the majority, want to part of the huge collective - rather than be left out.

The numbers might rise and fall like a roller-coaster ride at times but one thing is for sure, one way or another, Facebook is here to stay for quite some time.
To think different would be foolish.

Zuckerburg himself said recently that Facebook is going to become a different animal in the next while. He wants it to be the hub of social interaction, where we listen to music and watch films and well as engaging with others. The thing is, I'm sure a lot of people don't want that.It means being forced to accept whatever partners Facebook takes on and having more information than ever to sift through in a news feed.

I'm already noticing that it's taking longer to get through my feed to see what everyone is up to and a lot of it is unnecessary. I don't particularly want to know everyone's precise movements. Sure, you can just change the settings as to what is shown but you're having to do that more and more often now and it's annoying and time-consuming.

I'm not going to give up Facebook any time soon but I can see it losing a lot of users if it becomes too different to what it originally was.

you guys moaning are all using it the wrong way. and all those people with annoying status updates? yeah, they're your friends. you can just block them. facebook has improved hugely over the years and the fact that it is constantly changing is why it does so well. it's really sad that people make such a big deal out of using/quitting facebook, if you don't want to use it, don't.

You have point but as new younger members join up too, they won't to a good extent, know what the original was looking like or had features-wise.
They will only see what they have presently and decide to make use of it or not at that point according to its then state.

You use it less the older you get, most people started in their teens, and so more teens sign up as they begin to use the internet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,698 ✭✭✭✭Princess Peach

Don't really use it much anymore. Only post in private groups really and I deleted about half my friends and I'm contemplating deleting half of whose left.

Only thing I really use it for is to enter competitions, send links to my boyfriend and keep up to date with businesses I support.

And stalk a couple of people.

The main reason I use Facebook is to keep in contact with some people abroad. I could do without it and go back to "old fashioned" e-mail. The recent changes have been very annoying, especially the chat.

Thing is, I DO want to use it. I want to be able to chat instantly with my online friends like I used to be able to. Recent updates have made it hard to distinguish who's online from who isn't, and hard to talk to them without errors when you do.

What people here don't realise is that most people don't spend as much time on the internet as they do, and for those people there isn't really an alternative. Most people I know treat fb as importantly as their phone and haven't heard of Google+ yet.

I still spend a good bit of time on it, but the thing that annoys me the most about it hasn't anything to do with the site itself, it's the fcuking people that must take a picture of anything remotely interesting that happens in their life and then upload it.

Still though, fb has a looong way to go.

I'm using it far less often these days..login maybe 3 or 4 times a week

Facebook is a good tool to weed out the attention seeking muppets. Once you see them posting ****e in the news feed, you know to avoid them in real life!
