Hi last sunday I bought an iphone 4 off some lad from an ad I seen on gumtree. When I met him he showed me the phone.Everything looked good.. So I decided to take it. He poped his sim out and I went off to three to get a micro sim for it as I did not have one at the time..Anyways to make a long story short got the sim put it in had no signal I assumed it was a network issue so I rang them. Was told all seems ok on there side. Went into three the following day. Turns out after I bought the phone the person I bought the phone from reported it stolen to the network and it got blacklisted. The network told me this is not the first time this has happened that people are doing it all time and claim the insurance and get there new phones plus some poor honest persons money. So now Im stuck between a rock and a hard place I have no details of the person I got the phone from. The network have is account details but wont tell me who he is so I can find him and Im left with an iphone 4 that is blacklisted to all networks in Ireland..So basically I have a very dear Ipod Touch..Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?? Any ideas or help welcome :(

    you have his phone number.
the network have his personal details.

print out the gumtree add and report to the Garda as a fraud sale. it might work?
they may just pay him a visit and chat with him, and tell him to contact you to arrange refund.

all of the above, is just a bit of advice, they might not actuallydo anything as its a private sale.

this is why i would never buy a phone fron donedeal/gumtree, adverts all the way as you get to see the sellers history and if he is only a newbie registered to sell etc and most people selling on adverts will have receipts etc etc

Surely the Insurance company/network provider are the link's in all this.
They would know the identity of the person making the claim for the phone that you have...?

I lost my phone 2 months ago, I went into the O2 shop and told them I had no idea where it was, that I had it one minute and the next minute it was gone.. I have a 3 year old and she has a tendancy to lift the phone and leave it wherever, I was completely honest with them, it could have fell out of my bag or my DD could have hidden it somewhere in the house? So they blocked the phone and i claimed off my insurance.. 2 days after i recieved my new phone i found my phone in my DD's handbag!! So I went into O2 and explained to O2 what had happened and they unblocked my phone for me at no cost? What I am saying is that you are not in the wrong, and that the provider shop can unblock it with the permission of the registered owner??

If i were you i would go to the guards and ask them to contact the person who sold you the phone??

    hope you get some answers.

How can you be sure that the guy selling it to you hadn't stolen it? I'd say the tel number he put in the ad was prepay.
