Yes, I was one of the people who got caught up in the hype to see Hostel 1, I did not like it at all.

If that wasn't bad enough then they came out with Hostel 2, which was even worse then the first one and makes the first one look good!

And now this December we going to get Hostel 3 on DVD.

Here the trailer For Hostel 3
Plot: High stakes gambling takes on a sinister new meaning in this third chapter of the terrifying HOSTEL series. While attending a bachelor party in Las Vegas, four friends are enticed by two sexy escorts to join them at a private party way off the Strip. Once there, they are horrified to find themselves the subjects of a perverse game of torture, where members of the Elite Hunting Club are hosting the most sadistic show in town.”

Why are you contributing to the hype of Hostel 3 if you hated the first two?

Why are you contributing to the hype of Hostel 3 if you hated the first two?

Presumably in some sort of fiendish Saw-like plot development, Tindie is going to be tied up/down by someone and forced to watch it ;) I mean, if I knew that was going to happen, I'd be trying to spread the misery around as much as I could too.

Saw the first one years ago and actually found it fairly entertaining if not a little ridiculous

Love Eli Roth as an actor too

It's a low budget, direct to DVD horror sequel, no harm in it at all. The first Histel was overhyped beyond belief but wasn't a bad film. The second which was hated by most is the superior film, it had a lot in common with classic Wuropean horror and had some interesting things to say.

Part 3 looks to be just a good old fashioned 80 minutes of violence and if they can throw in a healthy mix if comedy it could be a winner. I have no expectations nor any hope of it being a good film so if I do watch it hopefully I'll be surprised.

Just no! Hostel 2 is one of the most appalling pieces of crap I've ever seen in my life. The 'feminist' subtext (clearly Tarantino rubbing off on Roth) is laughable stuff altogether. It tries far too hard too shock, and fails miserably. I don't mind Hostel - it's rubbish, but largely harmless rubbish. Hostel 2 is rubbish with pretensions of grandeur, and just comes across as the brain fart of an untalented individual as a result.

I have to agree, granted they are not my kind of films but I enjoyed the first two saw films so I'm totally against this kind of stuff but I felt Hostel 2 actually insulted me. like you said there comes a point when you are just trying too hard.

The feminist subtext was atrocious but it was a hell of a lot more interesting film than part one, the highlight of which was a cameo from a certain filmmaker. Perhaps it's in my head where part 2 remains the better film, I saw it when it came out so time may have made me appreciate it more, the only image I recall is the naked bathing in the blood of virgins. I do remember finding it a far more suspenseful and competently made film. And at least there was some tension, the original lacked any real sense of tension or threat. The one thing I really like about Hostel 2 were the references to other films, while not quite as obvious as Tarantino's plagiarism homaging, the film had some very nice nods to Jean Rollin and other European purveyors of trashy horror.

If I recall correctly before Hostel came out Roth released a statement where he claimed that Hostel was his reaction to the war in Iraq and the videos online of Al-Queda beheading. He went on to say something about how the film was about how American capitalism was the cause of all this. I remember watching the film and thinking how laughable able the statement was in relation to the finished film. The only thing it was a reaction to was perhaps the recent trend of PG-13 horrors. Where as many of the PS-13 horrors promised much but showed so little Hostel suggested so much and then showed us so little of substance that it quickly became a tedious bore.

Actually now that I think about it, Roth made a similar statement when part 2 came out, something along the lines of how it was his reaction to Hurricane Katrina or something to that effect. I have the quotes from before both films came out somewhere around here, I printed them out and stuck them up beside my writing desk where they always gave me a good chuckle.

Well I'm having a good chuckle at the "second which was hated by most is the superior film" comment, might pin that to my own writing desk. That second one was ****ing atrocious, a massive letdown after a pretty decent first part.

There's a great scene in the first where the victims meet an American businessman type who's gearing up to kill someone and meets the hostages(I think) in the changing room before he does the deed

I've only watched the first and it does the opposite of what a good horror is supposed to do. It made me want the main characters to die in the most painful way(s) possible. I wasn't rooting for any of them.

Here are the quotes where Roth explains his motivations and the supposed subtext in both Hostel films:

    On Hostel:
Hostel was "very much a reflection of my disgust with the Iraq War and the Al-Qaeda beheadings ... It's not just about people who want to kill us, but about capitalism gone awry and American imperialism."

    On Hostel 2
"Initially, I hadn't planned to do a sequel to Hostel," Roth says, referring to last year's number-one hit about a trio of male American backpackers lured into an Eastern European torture club. "But Hurricane Katrina got me thinking about how, when people think others aren't looking and the lights go down, all this killing breaks out. It's terrifying."

Hostel is entertaining for it's gore and nothing else, there is no suspense nor is there anyone to root for. Our main cast are bland and nasty with no redeeming characteristics who you just wanted to die and the villains don't fare much better. There is no tension generated in any of the scenes and you find yourself wishing it would end.

Part 2 succeed down to the fact that it was suspenseful. It was far more interesting watching events from the killers perspectives. It was a nice change from the typical backpackers on holiday get hunted and killed though perhaps my desire to see a slasher films from villains perspective made me enjoy it more than most.

i quite liked hostel , thought the whole concept was clever aswell as grotesque , im not the quickest of cats but i like to think of it as a commentory on what happens when on system replaces another , the whole post soviet europe era where everything was for sale at a price , extreme capitalism

To be honest I think any such readings are a case of looking too much into it. The way I see it, there is no real commentary there, just a bunch of nasty stuff strung together with a just about coherent storyline.

That actually seems better than the first one in that its not set in 1940's Nazi Europe.

Gave me a bad out look on going to Germany that year i saw it. Not to help it was winter time so everything was dark and gloomy. Now i refuse to go back :D
