Hi. I am trying to purchase something online - it's not something that's all that easily sourced - so restricted in terms of where I can source. I went through the purchase process on the vendors website. It gave 3 payment options- one of them being paypal. I duly paid via paypal. The next day, I got a mail from paypal advising of a full refund - and I got the following from the vendor:

For paypal - alertpay - libertyreserve - moneybookers DIGITAL PRODUCTS, ship in the same day

For paypal - PHYSICAL PRODUCTS, ship in within 15 to 60 days ... we need to wait for the chargeback policy, 80% of websites do the same thing, because we don't ask verification to our clients

For alertpay - moneybookers PHYSICAL PRODUCTS, ship in within 3 days ... we need to wait for the chargeback policy, 80% of websites do the same thing, because we don't ask verification to our clients

For Libertyreserve - Western Union - MoneyGram PHYSICAL PRODUCTS, we ship in within 24 hours

I have both moneybookers and alertpay. Do these offer the same protection as paypal? I'm pretty sure the other options don't - so I will not consider using them. However, what's the vendors motivation in outlining the above to me? Is it so that things are delayed long enough that if there's a need to pursue a chargeback, I can't??

Looks like they know what paypal will do and are banking on people wanting their items quickly instead of 2 months later...baloney regarding paypal verification. I've bought from ebay and paid paypal and had shipped same day.

The use of western union and moneygram is untraceable and unrefundable money transfers...
In short...avoid this site like the plague.

You are secure with Paypal -- You are obviously buying a ' physical product ' and shipping is indicated between 15-60 days .

Now that you have paid via Paypal , you can give the seller enough time to ship the item as you feel necessary .
Next up , you ask the seller to confirm tracking number .

You check this tracking number on the shipping website .

If things are in order , there is no need to worry , as you can keep an eye on it online .

If it is not showing up in tracking , you communicate with seller immediately .

If things are not in order , you lodge a claim with Paypal immediately

@allthedoyles: They have refunded the paypal payment I made. The only other forms of payment I will consider are alertpay and moneybookers. Am I right to think that they offer the same level of protection to the buyer as paypal?

We don't use alertpay nor moneybookers , so could'nt recommend .

But you need to delve further into this transaction before you complete a purchase again and make sure all is in order before committing a payment to this vendor .

    obvious scam
they're trying to bully you into paying by western union, and then the money will be untraceable and you'll get no item.
