Trouble with Wireless Sync

Is anyone else having trouble setting up wirelss sync? I have an iPhone 3GS and a laptop running XP.

I've connected the iPhone to the PC, via USB, and within iTunes I have ticked the option to allow my iPhone communicate with the PC over WiFi. I disconnected the USB connection between the iPhone and Laptop and I then plugged my iPhone into the charger and went to Settings -> General -> iTunes WiFi Sync but the 'Sync Now' button remains greyed out with the message 'Sync will resume when <PCNAME> is available'.

Anyone else come across this and know how to fix it?

Did you click apply before you disconnected the iPhone?

I did indeed. I looked up a few tutorials online and its seems that I am doing nothing different to any of those.

And both devices are on the same Wifi network.

And I assume the phone isn't showing up in the iTunes sidebar either?

My only other thought is that you might have some security software running that is preventing iTunes and the phone from detecting each other.

Correct, the phone isn't appearing in the sidebar. I have the free version of Avast running for anti-virus purposes and I have the free Zonealarm package running for firewall.

Ok, it turns out it was something to do with one of the settings in Zonealarm. Thanks for your help lads.

I am on a 3GS and am having the exact same problem.

I am on avsat and commodo, what did you need to change in Zonealarm?

Can't you just sync with the iCloud? ,I've a pain in my bollocks syncing with iTunes and all the wife's music gets downloaded to my phone unless I manually go in before and un-tick all her crap, which defeats the purpose. Can I just sync with MY purchases through iCloud ?

I had previously set Zonealarm from preventing other devices from connecting to my laptop, so I just relaxed that.

My understanding is that Apple's iTunes Match will offer this service at the end of October ( Maybe US only to start with though ) at the moment iCloud won't do this

Only option would be to set up two playlists to separate your music and manually drag and drop the playlist each time.

Which is time consuming and a pain, Apple products are great, this issue is a pain, yesterday my phone synced wirelessly and hey presto, my phone is full of the wife's garbage again, very, very annoying.

There is another option to create a new library separate to your current on. Not sure if this works on windows but on a Mac you hold 'alt' and open iTunes. This gives you the option to setup a new library. Then just drag and drop all your music into this library.

Once your phone is synced with this library I believe your phone will only sync then with that library.

This would involve a bit of work but once its set up your music should be more easy to manage

You've something setup wrong there. I have 4 iOs devices, and they all have their own music, apps etc. you should have 2 different devices show up when you plug in the iPhones to the computer. Each phone then has its own setup.

I didn't think that applies to music . I know my apps and settings are all different on each iOS device I have ,but their music libraries are the same . Unless I manually select which songs to transfer

No, I have different playlists on each device. Library is the samebut you select different playlists for each different device.

Ah I get you know. So you manually manage the music? Put certain songs into each playlist and then drag the playlist to your device of choice?

Kind of. I have every album as a playlist. Then I tick each album(playlist) in music, or drag them as you say.

I had to reinstall iTunes to enable WiFi sync to perform without errors.

    Issues resolved themselves after that.
