It's finally happened, rumours have been rife for a good two years now that Ryan Moore would leave Sir Michael Stoute to get the most coveted job in racing, stable jockey at the all conquering Ballydoyle team.

What are your thoughts on this lads?

My view on it is this, I think Moore clearly wanted the job, but I guess having Workforce, Carlton House and even Harbinger the year before made it difficult for him to leave, some loyalty I guess. Stoute has had quiet enough year and doesnt seem to have a decent Classic crop for next year. Obviously with O'Brien he will have that opportunity year after year. Group 1's in every country around the world.
All in all it was an easy decision as he's an ambitious lad and I think its a wise choice from the Coolmore lads.

Surely good for Irish racing too, to have a high profile jockey here for every race meeting.

What a couple of days of news on the flat!

Moore will ride in England when there is no racing in Ireland though, Which is most of the time.

should have waited and gotten Hughsie, at least he'd be 100% committed

Moore's agent has come out and denied the appointment..... No smoke without fire as they say.

Hope it's not true, he's effective but has all the personality of a stick.

He has the personality of a sponge but that might be a good thing, we get enough gargle out of AOB as it is.

"He's effective" is an understatement aswell, he is one of the best in the world imo.

I like to see a bit of showmanship and style, he just drives them to the line. Pour Moi's Epsom Derby win and stud career was enhanced by Barzalonas finish and his celebration afterwards. Not every horse gives their best to a rider like Moore. He's a great jock in a tight finish who will drive the horse out to the line like a flat version of Tony McCoy. I like to see a jockey like Soumillon or Hughes sitting motionless and swooping late to win in style, or the way Frankie used to ride from the front and take the big races for Godolphin. So I think effective is an apt description.

Showmanship isn't what makes a great jockey though, and I would rather have Moore on top of my horse than Soumilllon 100 times out of 100.

Hughes is one of the best around aswell and some of his weighted rides are beautiful to watch, but just because Moore doesn't have the same style doesn't make him any less of a jockey.

You said "not every horse gives their best to a rider like Moore", that relates to every jockey. Different horses perform better under different riding styles.

I'm not sure are you disagreeing but Moore is definitely one of the best jockeys around regardless of his personality.

Very true, some horses need strong driving and some need to be sat on patiently. I'm not saying that Moore can't do both but his style is more suited to strong driving than holding them up. Johnny Murtagh could do both equally well, IMO Ryan looks like strong driving comes more naturally to him than holding them up does.

I can't argue with his record it shows him to be one of the best, he's just not to my taste. He's very effective and strong, rides to instructions and a good jockey to have on your side when the moneys down. When I think of what makes a great jockey, I think of the likes of Steve Cauthen with a clock in his head riding perfectly judged races.

I really hope he doesn't get the job.

Johnny Murtagh has two big race wins today.
Ballydoyle hasn't been the same without him. A really likeable fella and the best jockey around.

I can't wait to hear Moore's comments after the Champion Stakes.

Not that he did anything wrong, but he hasn't done anything while riding for Ballydoyle that would suggest to me he should be their stable jockey.

What's wrong with Seamie and Colm who know the horses inside out?

Ryan will ride in England all of the time and let the other boys ride out the horses that he'll be sitting on in the big races. It'd be a disgrace if he got it.

I won't forget him after this year's Derby,he was like a spoilt child after Carlton House got beat.

Johnny Murtagh is my kind of jockey, he has a little something extra to offer other than just machine like pushing out to the line. He's getting on a bit, but is still as sharp as ever. O'Briens stable Jockeys are doing fine, Moore hasn't shown anything more on So You Think than Seamie has and Seamie gave him a perfect ride in the Eclipse. Coolmore look serious about hiring Moore and they are the boys that know their business, he just takes the gloss off a result for me with his dour nature. Lester could get away with it but he was a Genius, what would you think of young Buick if they are going abroad for a jock.

Couldn't agree more. He's done no more than Seamie, can't see why he'd get the ride on him.

Doubt Buick would leave Gosden. He has some really nice horses there, plus he picks up some really nice rides for other stables. I can see Coolmore using him though, they used him for Jan Vermeer in a group 3 when Ryan was on Workforce early on in the season.

Still think Johnny is the best choice. I just think of the season when he rode a ridiculous amount of group 1 winners for Ballydoyle back in 08. Think it was about 23 in all. That is phenomenal. The golden days of Henrythenavigator,Yeats,Halfway to Heaven and co.
