Ford Focus drivers door wont lock

    Hi,
I have a problem with my 01 Ford Focus. It will only lock form the passenger side.
If I press the lock button on the drivers door on the inside it just opens back up but if I press the button on the passenger door both doors lock. Or I can lock both doors from the outside using the passenger door key hole or if I lock the passenger door from the inside and the drivers from the outside.

The drivers handle is also sticking out a bit on the door. Does anyone have any idea what this could be and if it would be expensive to fix?

    Thanks

My 03 does the same. Well, on and off.

Its the locking mechanism starting to fail. Usual solved (on mine) by opening it and banging it closed.

Now that you mention it, I must get that sorted.

Get at it with WD 40 into the keyhole and also, take off the door card and lubricate all the joints in the mechanism inside, including the lock itself.

Worth a try as it costs nothing. I have come across this problem a couple of times in the focus. Solved it this way.

As you're lubricating, keep activating the locking mechanism, with the key if possible. It might take a wee while but it should come good.

Let us know how it goes.

Spray some wd40 on the driver's door latch. It could be just sticking. If that has no affect then I would have a look at this thread link. See the water that has got past the door seal and onto the micro switch that controls the central locking:

Sounds similar to an issue I had with an older Ford. As the central locking is activated by both front doors, and the actual lock mechanism from the inside is the handle going in (rather than a button), the passenger door handle (because it doesn't get that much use) on the inside was sticking halfway between the normal position and the locked position.

Central locking couldn't figure itself out with the handle in that position, so it would open and close at random intervals while driving, and if locked by key on the drivers side, or remote locking, would often open again. If you use the key on the passenger side, it mechanically pulls the passenger door handle in rather than relying on an electric motor.

Simple bit of WD40 on the passenger interior door handle, and a bit of pushing an pulling to make sure it was well lubricated, sorted out this issue.

Would be the first thing to try as it's the cheapest option.
