A new one creeping in that has caused me to post this thread - 'The Low Hanging Fruit' - used increasingly by media commentators to describe easy targets for Government cutbacks. The unemployed, OAPs, overseas aid etc. not fat cat wbankers, politicians and their developer friends. Jeez, it's hard enough to deal with all the sh1t coming down the line (sorry) without these ****ers inventing a new language. Going Forward, We are where we are, Soft landing etc.etc. Anybody else got any favourites or is it just my age?

I hate the word "Troika". They seem to always say it on the radio when referring to the imf visit. Can't stand that word.

"Burn the bondholders", many people who say it have no idea what it means, and barely anybody actually understands the consequences.
"Cloud computing", it's just a buzzword for using the internet for stuff.

    Staycation
So to have a holiday in Ireland, stay at home vacation

Death to the person who came up with that word

    "bit of banter"......fcuk off.

Also any mention of the recession. We're technically out of the recession, gdp and gnp both grew the last 1/4, yet its mentioned everywhere. recession is over, we just have a long way to go to get back to anywhere near where we were. if more people knew that it might increase consumer confidence and bingo......more economic growth-instead everyones too scared to spend causing more problems.

And I almost forgot the ****ing 'Haircut' word that came to prominence with the Nama farce. Some twit coins the word/phrase then the media hacks pick it up and run with it as they think it makes them appear clever.

It's such a wankbag of a word, invented by "princesses" who used to call themselves "fashionistas".

Bord Failte/Failte Ireland or whatever they are called now were the pioneers of bull****tery - 'the honeypot project' and a 'bottoms up experience' were two of their favourites when I had dealings with them - way before the Celtic Slug appeared. 'Sh1t or get off the pot' was another expression favoured by one of their senior managers with whom I had dealings. They were well positioned to come up with the crap 'Staycation' word mentioned in another post.

Unfortunately you need to grow 3 quarters in a row to be actually out of recession, we're in a depression now by economic standards by now so at least they're still only saying recession.

' Kicking the can down the road ' seems to be getting popular lately. other ones like smart economy and austerity just piss me off as well. havent heard too much about the yuumy mummies for a while though.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 13,549 ✭✭✭✭Judgement Day

Yep, 'kicking the can down the road' is another teeth grater and a favourite on Newstalk amongst presenters and the same small elite of economists favoured by all the broadcasters.

Yeah, a friend was saying this to me the other day - if there are 14.5% of the workforce unemployed then the employed make up the vast majority of 85.5%. So, lucky to be in the vast majoprity??? Odds for having a job are 17/3 on - I like those odds and luck will have little to do with it.

Including the Government apparently, judging by what they said in opposition and what they've done in power.

Knowledge economy - our kids spend more time on Irish and Religion than Maths and Science, you can go through your entire primary and secondary education without ever touching a computer let alone learning about one. Big hairy balls.

    • "Property portfolio". ie the one bed apartment in the wilderness that the investors "had" to buy cos the banks threw money at them. Was once an "asset" now a "liability/noose around their necks"

Many people actually have been "forced to emigrate", especially those with
dependents. This recession has ruined lots of lives.
