It has occured to me that besides the teagasc and green cert and so on there is very few part time farming courses. Even in minor things such as basic tractor maintenance, i imagine not everyone is mechanically minded and it would be of great benefit to people if they did not have to pay a mechanic for minor jobs. Also in livestock health, alot of people may not be comfortable injecting, squeezing, de-hornin etc. I am sure there are other elements of farming people would like more knowledge/expertise in.Now maybe i am wrong and these courses are available but i have never come across them.Surely if there are not with farming supposedly booming at the moment there is oppurtunities for qualified people to provide these courses .

Anyone know where I could do a basic tractor maintance course or an electrical course for wiring up lights/ starters etc?

Farming courses have come along way since the op Posted especially ai/hoof pairing. If any one knows of any or even some books ye could reccomend that would be great

Looks like I might need to claim the agriculture relief at some point in next 5 years. Live in Meath and work in Dublin 3 days per week. Land is in Tipperary. Any advice on places to do the green Cert? Teagasc seems the obvious choice - any other options that meet the Agricultural qualifications test that might be cheaper or allow online course? Thx, MrBlack

They are in Cahir and the course is 90% online I think.

Farmed course is basically a privately run green cert programme packaged up in a way that gets you your level 5/6 relief qualification with the minimum time and effort for a premium on price.

It's not intended to teach you anything, or to develop competence. It's purpose is to qualify you for tax relief. If you happen to learn anything along the way, that's very much a side effect.
