    8km each way.

In the morning it takes about 30 mins because I leave quite early, in the evening it can take over twice a long.

27km/40-50mins each way. Moving from the city to the country side was the biggest pain in the arse decision in that regard. When Im done with college and if I ever get a decent paying job I'll be moving right back into Waterford city.

10.5km each way. 25 minutes on the bike.

About 5km each way, I cycle so it only takes about 15/20 minutes, depending if the wind is with or against me.

Since I started cycling into work in April I've lost a stone... So its a great form of belly reduction! :D

40 minutes to drive 46km and I do it twice a day!

Can't believe it takes someone 30 minutes to go 8km - I am so glad I left Dublin!!

112 kilometres each day by car, takes about 35-40 mins each way.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,258 ✭✭✭✭Rabies

Starting from tomorrow, 14km each way by car... or about 3km by ferry.

17km each way to and from work.

    About 50mins on the bicycle.

    ( About 55mins if I obeyed the Traffic lights. :D )

25km each way down the M50. Nothing like early morning dodgems to wake you up each day. Including the mess that is getting onto the M50SB from Blanchardstown and getting off again at Leopardstown, it takes about an hour in the mornings and half an hour to 45 mins in the evenings.

About 7 km each way. 20–30 minutes depending on how slow the train decides to be that day.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 199 ✭✭Trix

    40 miles each way.:(

WHy is everyone posting the distances in kilometres??

Miles is much better - km's make it sound a larger distance than what is it. Also, anything form of measurement championed by the EU should be outright banned imo.

4.5k to work, takes about 20 in the morning and 15 coming home, traffics a bitch passing 4 schools. ****ing LOLLYPOP LADIES.

It sounds better if you cycle.

In time, luas for 10mins, train for about 36mins and 5mins shuttle bus ride.
The shuttle bus is consistent, luas and train can take longer than that at times, so about an hour each way.

Not quite! I'm a fast enough walker, can do the 3.5km to work in about 45mins. Cycle 10-12 mins. Car 10-12 mins, unless the rain is REALLY bad, because I have to pass about 4 schools and it can take an age when they are all being dropped by car.

About 25K I cycle now and it can take between an hour to an hour and 15 mins.

When I drive about 40 mins.

8 miles each way so yeah that would be 16 miles in total.

Takes 8minutes in the morning, and up to 20 in the evening.

3.5 feet to desk. Usually take a detour downstairs to make coffee tho. Really need to get proper office :( Oh and other times thousands of miles to do proper work.

That is absolutely insane, I thought my mate was bad for his 4 hour commute.

He took the Dublin gold during the boom, sold his house in Dub and got one in Navan he made a handsome profit, but although he wouldn't say so, I think he regrets his decision, he has probably lost his profit on petrol and motoring expenses over the years.

I acknowledge OP is asking about how far people commute but isn't measuring commuting in minutes or hours rather than kms/miles a more accurate method of assessing a commute? You could live in Dublin and commute 10 kms to work but that could take an hour in traffic but a commute of 10 kms in a rural locations could take just 10 minutes. So just giving kms/miles does not give a full picture of how long the commute takes.

For the record, I commute 9 miles/15 kms by foot and train (an hour door to door).

PS - I imagine anyone under 25 has grown up using kms rather than miles. I still cannot make the transition to metric!

For me, it's 1.6km/1 mile to work. That's just under 15 minutes walking, although I'm getting a bike in the next few weeks so then it'll probably take 4 minutes, 5 if the traffic lights hate me.

I do a round trip of 120 miles every day. It's long and boring so take a few different routes to keep it slightly more interesting.
