The full list of candidates for the Dublin West by election had gone up.
Some of them are those who ran and failed in the last general election but there are some of whom who've not run before and a fair few who are not from the constituency with addresses as far flung as Arklow and Athlone.

Surely candidates should have to have an address in the area?

No they don't, you can run wherever you want. In fact you can run in several constituencies at once. There have always been those who don't live in their constituency, eg.

Mary Hanafin. Represented Dun Laoghaire, lives in Rathgar, Dublin SE.
George Lee. Represented Dublin South, lives in DL constituency
Shane Ross. Represents Dublin South, lives in Co. Wicklow.

Thats just three off the top of my head but there are plenty more.

Of course if you're Ivor Callely you live where its most convenient expenses wise.

Its probably a lot easier to get elected if you live in the area and active in the local community
