Herbal Capsule Expiry

I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this, or even if it is allowed; do as you must mods. I bought a herbal supplement from Nourish last year (Gotu Kola to be specific), put it in amongst other stuff in my cupboard and subsequently forgot about it :o

Re-discovered it there and want to start taking it again.. only thing is, the best before on the bottle is 2010. The jar is unopened, and while I know I should probably just get another, it costs the guts of 15 quid which as a povvo student, I really dont have at the minute. I know BBs are there for a reason, but seeing as the seal-tight jar hasnt been opened I was wondering if it would be OK to use them? Is there even any point, considering the efficacy of the herb may be compromised? And why oh why is there not a natural health section on boards?

    Any advice appreciated :)

No-one would ever recommend taking any medicine - prescription or otherwise after its use by date. They are put there for a reason - which is that the manufacturers can guarrantee the incipients remain the same for a certain time frame.

I think it is a really bad idea for anyone to take any out of date medicine or supplement.

    Bin it mate!

That absolutely makes sense. But just so I don't sound entirely redundant, I thought maybe there was indeed a difference between a prescription drug and a powdered herb. Seemingly not. Cheers DrIndy!
