Hey guys, does anyone out there have any experience with the Face Of Ireland competition? Or know anything about it? My friend passed the interview and now the competition organisers are asking for 150 euro to cover costs (hair, make up, photography, food, general expenses.) My friend has to pay the 150 euro tomorrow or else she cannot take part. There was a thread on boards here in 2010 about this but we really don't know what to believe after having read it. Really trying to find out if this competition is a scam or not! Please help!

I'm not familiar with it - but that is a massive red flag as far as I'm concerned. It reeks of 'modelling' agencies that look for hundreds from young girls to start off their portfolios. I'd steer well clear of it. Especially at such short notice too...

Edit - might be worth a read:

There is no need to be such a bitch. She was obviously looking for advice. Not judgement, so take your negativity else where unless you have something relevant to say.

Would have thought the former comment deserved the warning really.

Sorry, that was a bit harsh.

I just really can't understand why anybody would pay that amount of money to "become" a model. It's obviously a scam.
