    Im looking at getting a 2000-2003 fiat punto 1.2 16v . They are a nice looking car but how reliable are they

    Are you handy with your hands:) The older puntos used to give fierce hardship with head gaskets going in them.

    look at a toyota yaris , vw polo or mitsubishi colt instead , if your looking for reliability a fiat punto is not where your going to find it

    That's the 1.2 8 valve engine. 16 valve and the 1.4 have no more occurance of them than any other car of the era.

    You'll find it harder to find a 16v.
    I'd opt for a 5 door. Sportings will have the stones driven out of them.

    Polos are seriously overrated reliability wise. Seriously overrated.

    The hlx and sporting were 16v, don't think the facelift versions really had the 1.2 16v engines.

    The 8 valve has the air filter on top of the engine and a little pipe to suck air in whereas the 16v has a normal type airbox at the passenger side.

    Generally speaking unless its its a really high trim level it'll be 8 valve.
    Uk got elx 16v, but irish elx in mk2 punto are all 8 valve
