looking for a saorview aerial saw these in b+q and want your opinions
slx2 high gain 64 element wide band aerial 27985d €71
slx2 mega boost high gain wide band aerial with built in booster 27885d also €71
also tristar high gain 48 element aerial
the mega boost model has a fixing kit included in price ,does that mean it is just a poor aerial with just a few extras thrown in to make it look good

saorview map coverage shows my transmitter located 30 - 40 miles away, so i assume i would definitely need a high gain aerial or would a medium gain aerial do

Without wanting to recommend B & Q as I've noticed their prices seem to have shot up lately, I have to admit the aerial I got from their seemed okay, however, I'm sure I only gave about Euro25 for it back in May / June. Grey box - load of elements can't remember the name.
I am receiving from Mt Leinster in Carlow and am right on the border of Laois / Tipp about 5 miles from Roscrea.
Signal strength and quality both show @ 100% on Walker DTT telly and on Ferguson Combi 120 box. I am running through an amplifier but I only put this in as it has a 4 way splitter and I already had it for my almost nonexistent analogue channels which are now great on TV3 & TG4 - not RTE of course as I no longer have the VHF aerial.

I would check the Saorview site and see what they recommend and have a look at what other houses in the area are using. There's no point paying out extra dosh to buy over engineered parts you don't necessarily need.

Forgot to mention - fitting kit was inluded in the box.
