Wedding veil questions

    Hi all,

This is probably a silly question but how did you go about sourcing your wedding veil? Did you buy it online or go to bridal shops to try them on? How much (approx) do they cost? Is it difficult to find one to match your dress (colour-wise etc)? I want to find a simple elegant veil that matches my dress, face shape etc. but don't know where to start! Any tips or advice is appreciated - I'm clueless! :pac:

Try a few on in the shop with your dress so that you can get ideas as to what will suit you and the dress. Some shops might offer you a discount if you buy the dress and veil from them.

They are pretty pricey though. I paid £295 for mine which was cathedral length with diamante and crystals scattered on it...Ho hum.

However it's possible to buy these online. I know of girls who got veils from eBay for as little as £15, and they looked good. Rainbow Club also offer veils online as well. There are others. Just Google veils, and you'll get loads.

Have a look round. Should be plenty of options for you. Hope this helps.

When I was trying on my dress I tried on a cathedral length veil and loved it. I wasn't going to buy it there for over €100, so I bought it online for €20 on an eBay shop.
I fix buy crystals to stick on it, but never got around to doing it...
But it was White and went with my White dress perfectly. I took it off before the meal, but it looked lovely in all the photo's.
Just search for White/ivory veil in eBay and you should get loads of options.

Thanks a lot for the replies. :) I've bought my dress already but no veil with it (was very pushed for time that day and it didn't even occur to me!). I got it in Galway but live in Dublin so I probably won't go back there. Would it be odd to go into bridal shops in Dublin just to try on veils??

I've heard lots of people buy their veils online - I'm just wondering whether they are good quality (you don't know what you'll get until it arrives)...and I wonder whether it would be hard to choose a veil that matches your dress if you can't try it on first? My dress is a pale ivory colour and I thought most veils are white?

You can get veils in a few different colours. Mine was champagne ivory. Go to bridal shops and see if they have your dress so you can try it on with the veil. You would want to see what the veil looks like with your dress. At first I thought I wanted a cathedral length veil but a second look, I knew I wanted it just past my bum. We were pressed for time so I had to order my veil with the bridal shop, 220 EURO!!!:eek:

They can be gotten SO much cheaper on the internet of pretty much the same quality. I don't think the quality would differ much as it is pretty much the same material used in all veils except if you want a lace veil.

Most veils I've seen are ivory - you can get them online in lots of different colours. The one I wanted is $350 and they can feck off if they think I'm paying that for a bit of netting!

I haven't ordered one yet online but I've found some that are like the one I tried on in the bridal shop and saved the links. I'll be ordering soon, I think. There's loads out there online.

That's good to hear. Thanks! :) That should make my search a lot easier.

The only shop in Ireland that stocked my dress is in Galway, so no bridal shops here will have it. So it seems I can't try the veil and dress on together until I buy it! Maybe I could wear a (normal) dress with a similar silhouette when I go to the bridal shops to try on veils to see if the veil matches the shape of the dress? Do you think that will look odd? I haven't a clue what would suit me so I'd like to try some veils on first, before I buy one

Maybe you should buy a cheap one on eBay. Buy a cathedral length one. If you don't like it that length just cut it, see what length suits you and then buy a proper one online.

I bought mine here, was very happy with it: http://stores.ebay.ie/Veils-by-Leslie-V

I tried on a similar one in the shop and they wanted to charge me 300 euro for it, I got it for around 60.

Go to Newry bring your dress and they will match it up for you.
They are on average about 40 pounds in the bridal shop near the shopping centres.

Sounds like a reasonable price Moonbeam. Do you not think a bridal shop would mind me bringing my dress in when I bought it elsewhere?

I think this is the same eBay seller I bought mine from. Think it was about 20eur. My dress was diamond white and the veil was also diamond white (although if you're only getting one tier I think it'd be very hard to notice any colour difference unless they're very far off). The veil came with crystals on it too and was a bit shorter than bum-length (not sure what the official name for that is!)

Nope, but do ring them in advance.
