Masters in HRM - worth it?

    Hi everyone,

    I'm looking for some advice. I'm currently thinking about going back to college next September and getting a masters in HRM. I have a BBS with HRM and a Masters in Library and Information Studies.

    My question is, is it worth getting the Masters? Will it improve my chances of getting a job in the HRM field. I am applying for HRM admin jobs but nothing seems to be coming my way. Would completing the masters and getting my CIPD recognition be the way to go to improve my chances?

    I'm tossing between the Masters in HRM or doing a conversion course in IT/Computer Science.

    I did one and tbh as they can be €10k and upwards I am not sure they're worth it. If you work hard you can get into HR without one, and looking back there is very little of it that you'll use in a practical sense till years down the line.

    A defined route to something in HR is through recruitment. Get an entry level job in a recruitment agency (plenty hiring at the moment too, especially in IT), do 2+ years there, then make a sideways move to in house recruitment for a multinational then after a year there other HR positions will become open to you. If you wanted to get into training & development, change management, etc you'd be much better placed by already being in a company than coming at it from the outside.

    Entry level HR Admin jobs are hard to get as a lot of the time they'll go to a referral of a current employee on the HR team.
