MGF ALLOYS

Does anyone know a treatment I can do on the alloys of my MGF to stop the air escaping.

The tyres aren't punctured however they have become porous which is a common fault.

Failing that does anyone have a set they no longer want or use? One of mine has a buckle so I'm not sure what to do.

If they've become porous it's game over I think.

Bead seal in copious amounts might sort it after a light clean where the tyre seals to the rim. Decent tyre fitter would sort you out.

Thing is it doesn't seem to be coming from between the tyre and alloy.

It seems the entire alloy surface has become porous.

I've put fairy liquid on the tyre after wetting it and can't see anything obvious where the air is escaping

The fairy liquid test isn't infallible, I used to use similar in a job years ago to find leaks in production vessels before sterilising them with steam. I'd take the worst one to a tyre shop, get it bead sealed and the tyre remounted and see does it do the trick. Worth a try for the effort.

The tyres need to be replaced really, fully mismatched set of part worns.

It makes the handling entertaining to say the elast

Possibly. I'll have to check it out

I've made an offer on some alloys for it anyhow.

If anyone else has some good alloys for an MGF feel free to pm me

What might sort it for you is if you brought the alloys to a wheel doctor and ask him to check them out. There's a guy in Tipp Town who is very good.
