Hi, just wondering if any of you can hazard a guess as to what's happening with my chest freezer. It has started to gather water on top of it! Very strange. I regulary defrost it and clean the seal so I don't think that's the problem. There are water drops dripping down each side and a small puddle on the lid each evening when I return home from work. It does gather ice on the inside top, which I know can mean that the seal is not working properly. All the same, everything inside seems to be well frozen. It's 5 years old. is this an average life expectancy for a chest freezer? Thanks in advance for any replies..

Sounds like the top seal on the door is broken, the cold air is getting out and causing condensation at the top. If its happening every evening when you get home I would suggest putting a towel rolled up just at the top of the Freezer door in the morning, this would stop the cold air getting out too far.

If no puddle in the evening, then you have found your problem :)

Its common during periods of high humidity to find condensation on the outside of chest freezers.
Mine does it occasionally, its nothing to worry about.
Just wipe it down with a weak bleach solution so it doesn't get mouldy.

Thanks so much for input guys. i'll try the towel and wiping down with bleach solution. Hopefully won't need to fork out for new one. Thanks again.
