    [sorry, post should read 'behaviour']

Why do men feel the need to get out of their car and watch petrol attendants as they put petrol/diesel into the car?

do they do that? I only allowed the attendant do it once, during the cold snap last year and I forgot my gloves and the pump was hurting my hand because it was so cold! :o

Only reason not to fill your own petrol is if you have two broken arms.
Dont think you would be driving then!

I worked as one when I was a teenager

I think the wording on the contract was forecourt attendant, but that was a fair few years ago now.

Can't believe that you all live without petrol attendants. Most of the garages have them...

I don't like it when some pumps juice into my tank.

    Ooohhhh Matron.

There's loads of petrol attendants working in garages - it's more of a county thing. They're very popular with older women... not being sexist here, but I know quite a few women who prefer to use them as they don't have to get their hands dirty.

Personally, I avoid them like the plague as I don't trust spotty teenagers to know the difference between green & black.

I have never seen a petrol attendant in this country ever. Where the hell is this?

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,058 ✭✭✭✭Abi

Hold on, we'll get back to the attendant watching in a minute, that could be a whole other can of worms right there..

What man allows an attendant fill their tank in the first place?

Yeah...every 100 miles or so on route 66 you'll see them ,with an old rusty coke sign swinging in the wind outside their pre-1940s shops that used to be a stop of for the miners in the gold rush .......( phew)

The chronically useless, there were fellas who would get you to put in the petrol and then when you went to the window to get the money they would tell you to get them taytos and chocolate when you went to the till.

My local garage always had one! He would go off in a sulk if you didn't let him do it! He'd always run over and ask how much as you pulled in! I still roll down my window coming into a garage out of habit! I grew up listening to my Dad saying fill 'er up!!! Miss it :0 stupid multinational cheapskates

Cos they don't trust the fúckers not to get petrol on the paint work which can damage it, or to close the cap properly.

Yeah, think it's more common in more country-ish areas. They have them at my local garage, the lead attendant looks like him.

Presumably the ones who suffer from contact dermatitis? I know a mate of mine gets serious skin inflammation on his hands if any solvent gets near them. Drives him mental.

    (Also, lazy fuckers I guess.)

There's a small station on the old road north out of Drogheda toward monasterboice where the aul fella insists on puttin' in the fuel to the point of standing in the way of the door as you go to get out....hell if he wants the work that badly who am I to do him out of a job...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,271 ✭✭✭annascott

Seriously, if you don't have petrol assistants/forecourt attendants, how do you get air in your tyres and water top ups?

I thought it strange the way guys get out of the car to watch.

That's brilliant. Mind if I plagiarise that?

If you own a car you should really learn how to inflate a tyre (and eh... pour water) yourself.

    never done this...

im more peeved with people taking 2 hours to put in petrol and a similar amount of time to get cash from atms.

I can get petrol in about 2 mins.. how hard is it to fill up a car, pay for it and gtfo.

My local petrol station has these. Last time one of them put petrol in my car, I asked for 15 euro and he put in 50. One of them is pretty hot though! :)

Have never seen a man get out of his car and stand watching though!

Same as the petrol, do it my self. Only time I let the attendent do it is if he gets to the petrol cap side of the car before I get out, and then I pay whislt he's filling it up.
