Was that fight over or did he fight on?

Yikes no. He was quite wobbly - the poor guy but I saw him later on with a smile on his face which was good to see!

It was indeed. Mark Casserly from Chupasart fought Daniels in the final and lost 2-1. Close enough fight. Casserly certainly did not look overwhelmed by Daniels. He is a class act.

In other weight category Paul Norton also of Chupasart beat Vinny De Russo by split decision.

was at this event. that was a pretty cool kick. had Daniels not landed that he would have come away looking fairly unimpressive.

Anyone else feel the scoring system was a bit strange??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 573 ✭✭✭chprt

Scoring system was strange alright, I hadnt a clue what was going on in there :)

well done to paul Norton he only 69kg and fought at 75kg beating Artem from SBG and the Vinny from Kilkenny in the final

and well done to Mark beating Arni from SBG and putting in a good performance against Raymond, who is excellent at what he does.

As a point of interest, that was the first pro fight my lads have lost since march this year, as far as I can remember, which is a pretty slick run of fighting for my lads

thanks to all the usual suspects for helping out.

    Hi Paddy,

Congrats on the above - Im struggling for time this week to write a full review but I thought Paul's come back performance against Vinny was fantastic. Would like to see Mark under Muay Thai rules soon.

    Congrats to all again.

impressive athlete, although looked slightly less so when he tried mma ;)

well done to the tournament winners, although i think its pretty impressive the mma fighters from sbg were able to hang in there very competitively in a 'stand up' only environment with very high level stand up fighters. we took the fights just to help with our mma game...although in saying that Ais the Bash managed to beat one of ireland's top female kickboxers :)

anywhere to get run down of results?

Paul Norton v's Vinny De Russo was for me fight of the night.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c8dXuzF_LhY&feature=related

The scoring was strange surely it was a unanimous decision to Daniels, Mark did well to last 4 rounds in the final as very few have lasted that long against Daniels in full contact even though he's a semi contact points fighter.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7UP41X8yZz8

Some good fights on the night, but the ring could have been better fighters were either slipping when throwing high kicks or nearly falling out of the ring, some very strange judging decisions.

The under card was also filled with junior fights (age 10 - 13) that were total mismatches, this does nothing for promoting the sport.

Take away all that points "fighting" stuff and the event would have been a cracker. IMO it simply looks like rubbish on the same card as good quality K-1 style kickboxing bouts.

Good fight from Paul and Vinny there. Those ropes looked very loose altogether.

The ropes were very loose - I did see the officials and some coaches specifically tightening the turnbuckles before the fights and another official added the straps for the ropes in an effort to improve the situation.

Hoepfully some lessons learned for next time.

Yeah I'd say it's very hard not to when you've been training thai so long. It's not something you think about. It just happens.

could never understand why people would fight diet muay thai .

muay thai is the pinnacle of using fists, legs, arms and elbows.Fighters should step up to muay thai, not water it down so its some bastardised ruleset:pac::pac:

    my 2 cent any way
EDIT:not having a go at the show or the fighters just K1 and kickboxing in general

you are allowed to catch the kick in k1, just not in the rules of last saturday's K1, so unfortunately paul norton got a point taken off him in the final.

Labmouse - Why fight K1, I have to keep my lads active and the chance to win 1k and 2k respectively for fighting is not one I will shy away from.

I love muay thai and would prefer it if my lads only fought it i think in the 200 odd fights my gym has had only 5 have been k1 so its not too bad:)
That been said I am warming to some of the K1 style of training and think there is a place for it to be trained in a thai gym.

It also gives me a chance to train the lads a little differently and get them to try some different stuff in the ring. Also as it was 4 man tournies, it allows my lads to fight at the different/right tempo, in the semis, if you will see my lads were at 50% just workng on footwork n pickign up points, where as in the final paul was completely different going forward and attacking aggressively, so from that POV its good IMO as it allows you to work on finer points that you can bring to thai fighting.

Many K1 lads and kickboxers wont fight thai and in fact think we are mad for competing in the sport, thats their opinion and you cant blame them for it, as it is a tough aul sport to be in for a couple hundered quid a fight

Any thai lad watching k1 will prob find it difficult to watch it as its not the complete art that muay thai is, but sometimes you have to, to keep the lads active.

Thats been said I was delighted with the lads, I have had several people kickboxers and MMA lads from the show contacting me about training in our gym now after seeing my lads fighting, so from a promotional aspect its great as well, all are welcome

I have had 4 phone calls for Paul Norton to fight on shows this week alone. 2 of them against top 10 thai lads in the UK, a very tough division and one against a world champion kickboxer and another against a swedish lad, and remember pauls 69.0kg fighting in a 75kg tournament so you have to take your hat off to him.

also labmouse have a look at some of the fast and furious its showtime 70kg stuff, its sh*t hot... even Arutur Kynsheko was saying he couldnt fight thai no more as his style has changed too much and anyways the money is in K1 for him..

Nice to hear Paddy. Best of luck to Paul whatever he does next.

I took some beginner classes there a while ago and had a great time so I'm glad things are coming along for you and the club.

sorry came across wrong, wasnt having a go at the thai fighters or indeed the kickboxers. And of course I'd never begrudge anyone their money for getting in the ring:D

was just saying as a ruleset K1 is more boring than a full thai rule's bout.If I wasnt old ,fat and sitting in front of a keyboard I rather test myself with muaythai as being the pinnacle of a ringsport that is about as tough as it gets

Of course, finacially maybe K1 makes more sense from a promoters pov.

Me personaly I have a lot of respect for anyone that can take elbows, shinkicks, knee's and the odd dig to the head for 15 minutes
