How long does an insurance policy count for anything?

The reason I ask is that I'm trying to get a second policy at the moment, for a second car. I had a second policy about three years ago with Axa, but I got rid of the car and let it lapse. I'm just wondering can it be "re-activated", so to speak, as I'm getting the usual bull about second policies from any companies I call i.e. starting for scratch, no no-claims on a second policy, blah blah.

AFAIK the NCB entitlement lapses after two years. That said, you should be able to find someone willing to either mirror your current bonus or give you an introductory discount on the second car.

Generally the the company you are with will mirror your ncb on to the 2nd car, axa do as i am with them and have a 2nd car on a 2nd policy for what i consider a reasonable sum. Most insurance companies other than your insurer will not insure you on the 2nd policy as they will want to know why your own insurance company wont insure you on a 2nd policy.

I'm with Charteris via the AA, but they don't seem to be willing to mirror it. I don't suppose anyone has been in a similar situation with Charteris specifically?

I was with them through Munster Group and they mirrored my policy on a second vehicle no problem. I left them this year though, with one policy because I found a much better deal eleswhere.

I'm kinda boned because I've had a claim within the last couple of years, too. I still thought I'd be able to insure a bog standard 1.4 car for less than €1500 though.

Needed the same thing a few years ago and got nowhere ringing the companies directly. Called a broker and they were able to sort it for me on the same day

the claim will not help....but keep trying, there's always a solution out there.
