Weed Truffle

    Ok so here goes.

I was at EP this year and everything was going great until the the Saturday morning when an attractive woman passed our tent selling weed truffles

Now I don't normally do drugs, the occasional joint in college and I used to do some of the legal high stuff a few years back but normally stick to alcohol

She offered me a truffle and I said **** it thinking the dose would be small and at best lead to a bit of a giggle

Forked over €5 for the truffle and thought noting more about it as I threw it down the gullet.

About an hour later I got a fit of giggles, really intense so the giggles were but enjoyable nonetheless

This lasted about half an hour and what followed was a truly horrible experience. I literally thought I was covered in dry toothpaste despite the fact that my friends told me there was nothing wrong with me. I couldn't leave the campsite for about three hours and when I eventually did the horrible symptoms continued until 4 or 5 that evening until I eventually got a huge wave of depression and had to sleep it off the the tent while everyone else had fun.

Just wondering did anyone else buy any of these truffles and was it possible that it was something else (surely the effects of weed wouldn't last 7 hours or cause me to hallucinate)

    had a fecking great saturday!

No and by the sound of your experience I don't want to either.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭danniemcq

oh and OP i'm assuming you were drinking over the weekend and probably not eating proper meals etc. All this can have a negative effect on the effect of the truffles.

and if they were the same ones we had in our camp they were quite potent so if you aren't used to it it will affect you more too.

Shoulda taken a half eh OP?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,938 ✭✭✭mackg

You get a way better whack off it when eaten, used to it with hash back in the day and it is a whole different ball game. Bad experience was probably down to you not being ready for it, stuff like that can be overwhelming if you're not in the right frame of mind.

really? Funny thing is I would have bought more than one if they weren't a 5er a pop. God only knows what would have happened then.

    A lesson sorely learned

Dude, eating weed is much stronger than smoking it. Any kind of 'special' sweet is not for someone without any tolerance.

I'm sorry you had a whitener that lasted hours. If it happens again try to stay as cool as possible and eat something sugary. Ice cream will have you back to normal in minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,163 ✭✭✭✭danniemcq

yeah like i said if you haven't done it in a while (like you said yourself) it can be quite unnerving and if you start getting freaked its just a downward spiral.

At least it wasn't mushrooms you took!

At one point I literally was convinced I'd taken acid or something and was doomed to die

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,010 ✭✭✭ringadingding

I took acid once, It was truly great, until i'd had enough, when your trying to come down, minutes feel like hours, especially when your body has given up the gaunt but your mind is still on the go.

We used to do hash yoghurts way back when, a horrible trip on them would put you off...... until the following friday night :pac:

Noob error OP, never take the full thing if you have no idea how strong it is.

Still, you made it through fine and will have learned a lesson for next time.

  • Closed Accounts Posts: 22,559 ✭✭✭✭AnonoBoy

Eating it when you don't know how strong it is is an-oft committed mistake.

Also the "that hasn't kicked in, must be weak, better have more" line of thinking has led to many's a night curled on the couch afraid to change channel, answer the phone or go upstairs to my bed.

It ruined my weekend TBH, the friday night I was drinking captain Morgans and bopping around to Interpol, the Saturday evening I was nearly in tears at the back of James Blake contemplating my own funeral arrangements

Dont eat weed and drink beer at the same time... jesus christ.

That's worse than joints with rum.

As I said I rarely if ever take drugs anymore but I'm 6"1 and 14 stone, hence why I thought it was something other than weed as I've never been a lightweight in terms of drink

Maybe I am just a lightweight though :(

In fairness if you're having a puff and you find yourself getting too baked you can stop smoking and the minute you do, you know the drug is immediately but slowly leaving your system.

If you've eaten it, you have no idea how much is in it, how long it will last, how strong it is, WHAT it is.... Not for noobz!

Never heard of anyone dying from a weed overdose though they probably felt like they were going to. Chalk it down to experience.

The effects of weed last about an hour, maybe two at the most if you take a strong dose. What happened to you sounds more like the effect of magic mushrooms. Did any of your friends eat those truffles? Did the same thing happen to them?

    An hour or two?

If you eat way too much weed it lasts way longer than that. I speak from horrible experience here.

Ate some one night at 8, topped it up at half 9. I was in the horrors from about 11.30 to 3 in the morning.

Eating weed can be very strong.

But seriously :D imagine what would happen if you necked microdots or some real mushies. Wow.

The trainwreck effect is a lot stronger when you've eaten it. In effect you may have injested four or five joints worth at once. No wonder your system got overwhelmed.

This thread is making me nostalgic for the time I was 18 and in Amsterdam for the first time. Me and a friend ate a brownie each and laughed our asses off for three solid hours. The rush was sudden and powerful but I think it helps if you have company that's experiencing the same thing as you.

You'd need to eat about a pound of weed for it to kill you. That's an expensive, and difficult, way of commiting suicide.

Had one once there and nothing happened. There must have been nothing in them 'cause one guy ate about ten of them and was grand. Luckily they were delicious, so we didn't mind too much.

    What did they look like?

little round brown turds about a half inch in height

The woman selling them kept them in a little picnic basket type thing

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 139 ✭✭Air_Bass

I feel your pain OP, had a similar experience in Amsterdam a couple of years back.
A few hours worth of paranoia, panic attacks and weird out-of-body experiences.
Anytime I've smoked since I just start to get those feelings again, so it's probably put me off for good.
It just doesn't agree with certain people.

My advice to the OP or anyone who is going to do hallucinogenics or things that might cause hallucination like effect is:

    1. Do them in a comfortable environment with friends. You are going to be in a very strange state of mind, so if you are going to do them, do them at home or at friends house were someone knows where everything is. If someone in your group has done them before that's a big plus.

    2. Know what you want before you start, and don't be ignorant of what you are taking. If you want to get a bit high take a small piece, if you want to trip take a bit more etc. Also the thing about hallucinogenics is that the mood that you are in when you take them usually dictates the trip you are going to have. So depressed state = glum, intense hallucinations, happy mind-set = floaty, colourful borderline euphoric trip.

    3. Keep lots of sugary drinks close to hand (coke, club orange etc.) Sometimes an event or some outside influence can really upset your mind set (you are incredibly malleable while tripping), and when you take lots of sugar you come back to a relatively normal state pretty quickly (10-20 minutes). You'll still feel quite airy, and out of it (kind of like being stoned) but the trip will be far less intense and you'll definitely stop hallucinating.

    4. Never mix drink and hallucinogenics you will have a bad trip. There are so many reasons why mixing hallucinogenics and alcohol is a bad idea; alcohol is a depressant, so you can feel suicidal, you can have really have an off-key trip, it throws decision making skills way out of whack, so you can hurt yourself and hurt others, you can vomit intensely for hours etc.

If you follow these four pieces of advice you will probably have a good trip, and doing mushrooms and LCD can be quite an enjoyable experience.

Simple rule OP, if you're not used to doing something, DON'T do it all at once...

Ha, no it was a chocolate truffle rather than the type you use a truffle pig for and grate over scrambled eggs

It sounds to me like you had a bad case of paranoia, otherwise known as "the fear." Eating cannabis gives a much more potent effect than smoking it. I've had very strong "skunk" type weed in Holland and the States and have got edgy from the very strong buzz that it gives. Very strong doses of THC (the active compound in weed) can induce hallucinations and sensory changes which can be very frightening.

In future, stick to taking a couple of tokes and stay away from eating hash. Some people just aren't capable of enjoying the effects of being stoned just as for some people alcohol is a no no.

We asked for hash brownies, so I've always assumed that that's what we were served. Someone has since suggested to me that the fact we were smoking too might have negated the effect, but in my experience eating weed = more stoned, not 'just as stoned as you would have been'.

Still, I had a good night with friends, and the brownies were yummy.

I used to live with a guy who made these, you'd think you'd hardly be affected at all but they're surprisingly strong. They're best avoided.

Was this woman shiftily selling these 'weed truffles' surreptitiously with a nod and a wink or openly flogging her wares in a 'Hear Ye, Hear Ye' fashion?

If they actually contained cannabis, it'd seem a little odd to be so brazen.

Yup, always recall my first time eating it, hit me like a tonne of bricks...smoking it is such a waste really, but eating it takes too long and can be a bit too intense if you get the dosage wrong and isn't really as sociable as smoking it. Certainly eating it whilst drinking is a no-no, unless long interrupted sleep and occasional vomiting is your bag.

I'm intrigued about this "covered in dry toothpaste" though...

Most of what you said is bang on the money. But alcohol as a depressant does not mean it makes you depressed, it just slows down your central nervous system.

I did a space cake in Amsterdam a week and a half ago, I ate the whole thing against the advice everyone gave me. I ended up in bed within 3 hours of being in country freaking out and losing my grip on reality. This was my first time doing any drug other than alcohol. It was pretty scary. The next day did truffles and got nothing out of them but smoked all night and had a good buzz going. I think I prefer the smoke, it's more like drinking, more sociable and fun. But drink is still far better.

I have to admit not being able to imagine what being covered in dry toothpaste feels likes, but the fogginess in your head from a come down off a heavy stone whilst a great feling can be a drag at something like a music festival.
