    Welcome to Boards.ie.
To begin, (they do matter) but aren't near as important as the JC itself obviously. They are simply an indication of how you are doing regarding a subject. If you are unhappy in a school and its causing you to be miserable, you shouldn't be there as it'll undoubtedly lower your grades. Talk to your mother and tell her honesty that you do not want to be there. The "70%" is a bribe, as getting this in a school you're unhappy in will make achieving this harder.
    A) You can achieve anything, as long as you are confident. If you want something bad enough/work as hard as you can, you will get it. A-grades are very possible. Aim for your potential and work at it.
B)The material that will appear on the mocks is the very same as in the exam papers. Study your exam papers diligently by doing questions until you do not need the assistance of your book.
C)I did very well in my mocks. But, "study a little a lot". Do not burn yourself out.
    Best of luck!

Yeah, it's very possible, I did it!

Try not to be overly concerned, though. Do your bit of study but don't work excessively. I rested in the evenings between exams and it definitely benefited me.

    • Listen in class.
    • Always ask questions if you do not understand something.
    • Do your homework as if it was an exam question.

That will do it for the Junior (plus give you a good basis for the Leaving).

Welcome to boards :D And yes, it is achievable, especially in the mocks :) If you start studying now, even only a light bit and then knuckle down in December or January you'll fly it, provided you do homework properly too. I went on a holiday in January and had one and a half weeks to study and i averaged a few B's and C;s, so i was happy :) Good luck and try not to stress about it :D

Well, okay first of all... Do not panic!! Thats what will f*ck you up.... Just do your work as you go through this year and revise all of your other topics... Most of your course should be done by then but.... We know what some teachers are like... But if this is the case then I advise buying a Revsion book for that subjects and just learn what you havnt done, you dont need to understand it, because chances are youll do it in class before the Big JC and you can learn to understand it then ;) Its suprising that your Mocks are in Jan... Our school does them in March.... just before the JC.

Anyways Im sure youll do great and your Mam will be very happy and allow you to transfer.. Sorry to hear you are not getting on at school but it makes me ask the question is it worth leaving right before the JC? I mean moving schools is a lot of stress on top of the stress of this big exam! Maybe consider moving schools for the coming September and start TY/5th Year in a new school.... Based on good results in your JC... where you will surely be ok....!! :)

Mocks are tougher than the real thing in my opinion. I got 3A's 5B's and 3C'S in the mocks which converted to 6A's 5B's in the real thing with a normal amount of study ( 2 hours a night excluding homework and 3 hours on the saturdays in the may before hand). Make a timetable of what subjects to study each day or otherwise you will find yourself neglecting subjects (e.g never doing irish in my case!) 70 % in all subjects would be tough but if you picked four or five to work hard at i think it would be achievable. Best of luck either way!
