Registering for ROS

First timer in terms of being a landlord so just trying to make sure I file what I need to by 31/10, have done the figures offline, just need to input on ROS.

Am I correct in thinking I do it via ROS (and not PAYE anytime which I am already registered for?)

Secondly, when trying to register what is my tax type (I'm a PAYE earner with rental property income), under 'Tax type/Approval number' I'm trying 'PAYE Emp then entering my PPS number but it's not accepting it?

Any help before I try calling the helpline tomorrow would be great - thanks.

looking at ROS FAQ it says:

Returns and declarations available to file in ROS include:

    • Employers Payroll returns (P30, P35 and P45 (1))
    • Form 11 (Self Employed Individuals)
    • Corporation Tax (Form CT1)
    • VIES and INTRASTAT Returns
    • Vehicle Registration Tax (Vehicle Birth Certificates and Registration forms)
    • Relevant Contract Tax Returns (RCT30 and RCT35)
    • Environmental Levy
    • Dividend Withholding Tax Returns
    • Professional Services Withholding Tax Returns (F30 and F35)
    • Special Saving Incentive Account Returns
    • Deposit Interest Retention Tax Returns
    • Life Insurance Exit Tax Returns
    • Investment Undertaking Tax Returns
    • Gift and Inheritance Tax Returns (IT38)
    • Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) Export Declarations
    • Betting Duty Returns
    • EU Savings Directive Returns
    • Form1 (Firms)
    • Form RR1
don't see any mention of Form 12 - would like to know the answer if u find out

ros does not allow people to register using their employee paye numbers, only business taxes. the paye-emp option you are selecting is employers paye services (p30, p35, p45)

in order for you to be able to register on ros to file this income tax return you will need to be registered on the revenue system for income tax. to do this contact your tax office straight away, they should be able to assist you.

    PAYE anytime is not ROS.
    It's just for PAYE

ROS is for self assessed taxes

You need to register with the Revenue as Self employed.
Then you need to register with ROS (call 1890 20 11 06)
Then you need to complete the 3 step security process to get up and running on ROS.
    Then you are done.
    Should take ya 2 weeks.

Using ROS though gives you an extension till November some time

so is ROS only for the self employed?

If I am a PAYE employee but want to declare rental income for 2010 can I not do it through ROS?

    thanks

not neccessarily just for self employed, but businesses, corporations etc.

you can file a form 11 in ros declaring that rental income but in order for you to do so, you need to notify your tax office of your intention to do so so they can register you for income tax.

once that's done you can register for ros but bear in mind, as the above post alludes to, there is a 3 step process in ros which requires input of codes that are send out by land mail. this can be a timely process, so you need to act straight away.

bear in mind though people filing form 11s through ros get an extension of about 2 weeks.

just for clarification for people filing their income tax return by paper, the deadline is the 31st October 2011, for those filing by ros, the deadline is 15th November 2011

The extended deadline only applies if you are also paying the balance of tax online through ROS or if the balance is nil or a refund. If youknow you're going to owe tax and do not intend to pay in full online, then stick to the 31st October deadline.
