Firebird oil bolier - oil air lock??

    Hi all,

My fire bird oil boiler wont kick in... It hasn't been on in months, it looks like there is plenty of oil but it could be air locked?

I have opened it up and I pressed the red 'fire' button but nothing happened. I had to press the white 'override' switch before it tried to kick in. It makes noise for a few seconds and stops again.

I opened the little air valve with an Allen key and fired it again. I did get a few bubbles but no success, I repeated this about 6 times with no success.

I have a vague recollection of being told not to do this process too many times because it damages the boiler?

Any thoughts or suggestions please? Thanks in advance.....

If you didn't run out of fuel it will not be an airlock, if the 'red' reset button is lit, then there is a burner issue and you will need an oil technician to call out.

If you had to reset the 'hi limit' switch up beside the thermostat, you may also have a circulation problem (such as pump seize or failure)

When the burner runs, as you said, count to 12, does it fire? no possible something like a fuel or oil pump problem (can be a few other things though), if it does fire, then shuts down 3-5 seconds later, its a pe cell or control box issue

    Hi Oakshade,

Not a plumber but have a firebird at home and if it is airlocked, there is a screw on the top left hand corner of the bolier, you'll need an allen key to open, diesel or oil should trickle out here, if not its airlocked, having this open will let air out and she should kick off.

Power on and off boiler from switch in house and red button shopuld start it again

This only happens to me when the tank runs out and after I have a refill
