any one here got a saab 93? was wondering what they are like? are the comfortable and reliable? would be looking at a diesel or maybe petrol if it was very good value.

what power output do the engines have? would be looking at 03-06 ones

    cheers

Comfortable, yes. Probably the most comfortable car I've had for putting up the miles on

    Reliable? Hit and miss.

    Diesels:
    2.2 TiD 140bhp
1.9 TiD comes in either 120 or 150bhp

    Had a 03 2.2Tid for 2.5 years

Turbo and Intercooler both had to be replaced (blessedly under warranty)

Apart from that the main issues were electrical,
stupid stuff like sensors in the seats jamming on so the computer thought there was someone in the seat and then causing the seatbelt alarm to stay on.
Chewed through bulbs, mate has a 05 and his does the same.

On the plus side, very economical to run, and probably as comfortable a car as you can buy.

pretty much the same issues most modern diesels of that time! are the 2.2s any way lively? they seem to be going cheap enough these days.

are the engines opel? or is only the platform shared with opel?

The car is essentially a Vectra - no bad thing, as many a rep will tell you.

2.2Dti is not a fast car, the 1.9 CDTi FIAT engine has much better performance - the 150bhp being noticably quicker.

The 1.9 is making better money than 2.2 probably to do with the slightly higher tax on the later. Is only the 150 a 6speed? Do they have independent rear suspencion?

Any ideas what the petrols are like?

2.2 was an Opel unit afaik, wasn't going to win any races but not bad for motorway miles. Bit agricultural sounding. Plus there's the 823 a year tax.

Both are 6 speed I think. Petrols are GM units I guess.. 1.8, 2.0 Turbo and 2.8 Turbo. I am sure they are up to the job as there are stright from the Vectra.. 100's of thousands abused by reps for years!

Cadillac BLS is the same car too.

the 1.9 diesels are essentially fiat sourced. They like going through egr valves and also have a fondness for dmf/clutches at not excessive mileages (i've heard some needing replacement at 70k but I guess this is dependent on driving style).

while they re well speccd and seats are comfortable I found the ride very crashy (07 vector sport 150 wagon). also interior somewhat creaky, some of the plastics very cheap & brittle.

I've seen some nice petrol versions going for peanuts. although I've no personal experience of a petrol, given the hit & miss diesel reliability and the likely premium a petrol might be a better proposition if your mileage allows it.

roughly speaking you've three trim levels, Linear, Arc and Vector

All cars have aircon, all electric windows and mirrors

and the coolest cupholder in any car :D

Linear has cloth interior, aircon, 15" alloys (UK spec, some IRL cars had steel wheels)
Arc adds 16" alloys, half leather, front fogs, wood or metal trim inside
Vector has 17" alloys, full leather, climate control, color coded bodykit

There was a linear sport model, can't remember the spec but it was decent.

    Arc seats are lovely

I bought an 06 1.8 petrol (dont do a huge amount of miles)a couple of months ago and must say i have never sat in a more comfortable car.Plenty of poke I find. It had 40k miles on it when i got it, for some reason the timing belt needs to be done that bit earlier so it had just been done when i bought it. Averaging at around 36-38 mpg no problems to report but the havent had it too long. Think mine is the linear sport spec, half leather, alloys etc.lovely car to drive.theres a pic of it somewhere on post a pic of your car.
