I was wondering which would be best to buy, an independent av reciever and speakers or a dvd with built in amp? what are the pro's and con's for both?
    Thanks in advanced lads

How important is sound quality, upgradability and form (space)?
Separates are generally better in terms of the first two, and worse in the latter.
You could go a step further and separate the amplifiers from the processing :)
At the end of the day it comes down to budget, if you have the money you can get space saving separates that look nice and sound good.

Id like good sound quality, and the option to change or upgrade speakers is appealing, Im looking at a couple of av receivers but some are like 7 yrs old... surely one that's a few yrs old would still give good sound?
