Do you have a 3.5mm phono to RCA cable?

Is an RCA cable the one with the colours?

It should work, yes, but it depends on your tv. Try and see if you can select a separate audio source for one of the HDMI inputs. Or (as with the user in the other thread) there may be a HDMI port specifically for DVI-in which will take audio from the component/composite connections.

Make sure the cable is the correct one. My Mac does the same thing, but my Xbox plays fine! You can get video only dvi cables.

Same thing happened to me with my new MacBook Air. I had to reboot the laptop with the dvi to hdmi cable attached. Then it appeared in the output section of Sounds. If I just plugged it in without rebooting it did not show the option to select it
