    The Wire. Damages. The Killing.

    The Shield

Every bit as good as 24 - actually the Shield is better - perhaps the best tv ever

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,077 ✭✭✭✭eh i dunno

Cheers guys...will look these up online and pick one. The Shield seems cheap to buy which always helps. The Killing looks very interesting too. Never heard of it before.

the shield and the wire, although if you couldn't get into the soprano's, the wire might be tough going. definitely the shield though 100%.

also, dexter or breaking bad although they're still both on the go so you wouldn't get a full boxed set just yet.

    The Shield (echo!). Pure class.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,044 ✭✭✭Wossack

Hah, only linked the thread as these usually just devolve into list threads, but yea, as the guys are saying - think its only one thing to follow up 24 + Prison Break :)

    Yep, The Unit

Don't do it to yourself, 1st season grand, second season you'll want to shoot yourself to stop yourself from ever watching an episode again.

    Highly recommended....
    Supernatural
    Dexter
    Chuck

Both shows are still going but I'd recommend Sons or Anarchy and Justified

Yea, not serious bout The Unit :) Didnt think it was quite as bad as that though, but certainly not fantastic. The Shield is far superior

Agreed. If I hear one more person tell me there's nothing decent on the telly these days...

Good US cable drama but few mention any show on the main networks, csi, l&o, desperate housewives, grey's etc yeah allot of crap.

Golden age of american cable/pay tv. As hbo say its not tv.

    Some exceptions.

Brotherhood and Deadwood also recommend but shows have ended

Law & Order. When it's good; it's unmissable.

Too many of them now. Eps and spin offs. But it is hugely underrated compared to csi and ncis.

    The first season is ok
It goes down after that, a very soft, safe and bland show

I agree with most of the other recommendations on the thread so here is another OP

Check out Chicago Code, only lasted one season but they wrap it up nicely.
I'm still hoping a network will pick this up or Fox will reconsider

A pretty old one is Homicide Life on the Street. Set in Baltimore and same writer/producer to the Wire.
Looks low budget and pretty gritty but it works
Detective Pembleton makes the show, incredible character

SVU is probably the best these days. I'll watch the original and other spin offs on occasion. The UK one is rubbish, though.

I liked the strageness of CI. Music is classic tv intro all the same.

Breaking Bad, Damages or Sleeper Cell, Sleeper Cell is very much like 24 but can be better sometimes, only lasted 2 season though but each season tells a separate story

Criminal Minds has overtaken CSI and L&O for me, better show all round imo

i have found cm to be too much like ncis with some bad comedy added to the scripts.

Are we seriously recommending network tv shows? Give me the closer any day.

What sort of list is this with no House or Boston Legal or Stargate on it? pfft.

If your gonna watch The Killing put on a Jacket + we're waiting on Season 2.

Edit: Star Trek Voyager and what about Numb3rs. Loads of episodes there.

All these Series are over except for House but that's way off up at Season 8.

Series one of house is enough.

The Practice over its spin off boston legal, ah the 90s when network tv was producing shows of significance.

Oh shouldn't forget freaks and geeks :)

agreed but you don't have to watch that dross as you dont have to endure such crap thanks to our lovely cousins in the states that allows us to watch TV shows you want

some fantastic telly over the last 10 years, starting with my top three shows of all time

The Sopranos (suffered badly in series 5/6 with the strike and actors looking for more cash stretching out the seasons longer than it should of)
    The Wire
    Breaking Bad

and many others, they just keep coming, Movies have taken a back seat to TV shows with me over the last few years, long may it continue

    Battlestar Galactica.
