:) bit of fun here, but also might make for interesting read with added poll. Yes i conceed it's VERY early to have an assement of TN based on three episodes, but...much like FS you sorta get the gist of how the show is going and will go, regardless of how many eps. of TN you've seen, they are very similar shows.

Thus far i'm enjoying Terra more, i think because it's less Sci-Fi if that makes sense, we don't have aliens here....or do we?
My expectations for FS was much higher and it failed to deliver on every level.
FS kinda prepared me for TN as the bar was sooo low it was hard not to be better :)

Terra Nova is terrible so far.
Stupid plots and pointless running around. SS is making this for 12 year olds.

The budget and sets are the only saving grace so far

i like terra nova its entertaining, visual effects are good and i like the plot and characters are fairly likeable i suppose, though it can be a bit cheesy i'll give you that!. its no walking dead but its keeping me going til the walking dead season 2 on sunday:D after the walking dead ended last may i started watching fs a a sort of substitute and i tried to like ireally did, i wanted to like but just couldnt its JUST SO BAD!! its so boring, characters are lifeless and emotionless and unbelievable and as dull as dishwater.I watched the first season of the walking dead and absolutely loved it. I TRIED to watch falling skies and managed to force down 3 episodes, it was terrible. the walking dead has much better characters, the characters are so much more realistic, much more depth and development and are much better actors. the setting is much more realistic, and dark unlike falling skies where its all bright and happy for some reason, any why are therelike 10,000 survivors thats so stupid. the characters are undeep, and no character development and terrible acting.Id actally feel sad if someone died in twd, because the characters were deep and deveoped, but i couldnt give a toss if a character die in fs, dont even know theyre names. I just much prefer the walking dead as a whole and cannot wait for season 2. I really wanted to like falling skies I really did, I love all the zombie ,alien post apocalyptic , group of survivors story but just coldnt watch the falling skies and wont watch season 2.:)

Honestly I like both, but the fact that the effects in Terra are 100 times better than Falling Skies tips the balance for me.

    Falling Skies by a mile.

Nothing to redeem it what so ever.

I vote falling skies. But I think that's only because it's been around longer. Terra Nova is only on episode 4. If we have a few more like episode 4 I'd imagine it'll be worse than Falling Skies.
For both I never finish watching an episode wishing I had another one to watch right away. Neither of them are ever going to be stored for posterity.

    Both are absolutely terrible.

The biggest failing is the writing, horrendous and cringe inducing in both.

The acting is poor - and I only half blame the actors, it's very hard to be credible when reading drivel.

I don't know what the target audience is, but something has gone wrong on the quantative side because I don't think these shows will appeal to anyone long term.

The drama focus is not so much an issue for me. Many good Sci Fi and Horror serials have managed drama and even family drama without being annoying. neither of these shows have accomplished this.

I don't see either lasting - but who knows, my tolerance for TV isn't what it used to be (which might just be age). Between this crap and the 'V' reboot - I'm really disappointed in shows that would naturally have been a dead cert for me.

    As a final thought:

Daddy issues. What is with the super f**king annoying kids in American shows these days. Christ, the sons in both shows make Wesley Crusher seem like an incredibly likable character.

    Voted Falling Skies.

It was terrible, even if it was a good show, that RPG shot at the end would have made me stop watching.

I only watched it after realizing how bad it was, to b1tch about it with mates at work about how bad it was.

My expectations for Terra Nova were rock bottom after FS, so not disappointed with it so far, not impressed either, it seems a really family friendly show that doesn't take itself too seriously unlike FS, so its hard to complain about that.

I hadn't great expectations after FS either and was pleased enough with TN after the first few episodes. I have a horrible sinking feeling that TN is headed towards FS territory though the way it's going. I'm not sure it could ever be quite as bad but then again, I might be crediting it's writers too much. To sum up really, FS made me bored and mad. So far, TN is just making me bored.

Oh my god are you kidding me? I can only and must, for my sanity, assume that the people who overwhelmingly voted Falling Skies as worst must have not actually watched Terra Nova and made the assumption that it couldn't be worse.

It is. It's so much worse. Falling Skies is fluff but it's enjoyable, Terra Nova is just simply dreadful arse altogether devoid of any redeeming qualities.

Totally agree, although I wouldn't call falling skies too enjoyable either.... It's pretty poor, but nowhere near how bad terra nova is.
It's one of the worst tv shows iv seen. Most expensive pilot ever.... wtf were they thinking. And I hear now it's probably getting cancelled..... 4 episodes in :D

I had high hopes on both when they each started.

Falling Skies turned out to be Saturday morning BSG with a father running around trying to track down one of his three kids, story did move a bit but it always felt like it came flying back to that father character.

Terra Nova started fine, it quickly went down hill in a horrible way taking characters with it, writing at times was cringing and it was hard to see any redemption but somehow it managed (Slowly) to bring the main story back and the episodes have improved.

Terra Nova would be my better of the two, not by much so I voted Atari Jaguar.

They are both pretty bad but Terra Nova get's my vote cos it's just so boring. At least the aliens tried to attack the humans in most episodes the dinosaurs seem to pose no danger, it's just a walk in the park for the colonists. Also more annoying about Nova is the size and swankyness of their houses, how many interior designers must they have brought with them?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 520 ✭✭✭KenSwee

    Both pretty awful.
Stereo typical characters and actors playing them too (Will Patton, Dale Dye and Stephen Lang).
Terra Nova is a kiddie version of Outcasts and Falling skies is a TV version of Skyline and Battle: Los Angeles.
The worst thing about Falling Skies was the so called cliffhanger it ended on.

Better shows have been given less airtime.

The premises of both should make them amazing. If they weren't so family orientated they'd be good. I'm watching Firefly for the first time now and its crazy how it was cancelled before its first season ended but these 2 shows got more seasons.

Series 2 of Terra Nova or Falling Skies? FS is already lined up for broadcast of S2 so I'm assuming you mean TN?

I spoke to Jason O'Mara recently and he said that it's highly unlikely that the show will return. There was a slim chance of a movie end but it fell through. The sets have been taken down over the last few months so that usually ends it.

Wouldnt mind if they gave out the details of what was gonna happen overall now that its dead, similar to what the creator of defying gravity did once he got out of contract and spilled the beans on what he had planned

Yeah that'd be great actually. I had more time for TN than Falling Skies all things considered. Both were pants it has to be said but I think TN showed more potential if it could have been reformed. Hopefully Jason O'Meara has something else lined up. He was far from being the worst thing about the show.

Haven't seen terra nova and don't intend to.

Falling skies is ooooooo-kay but that's about it.

I hate the oldest son, he looks about 35 but is supposed to be 16?

No emotional connections betwee. The characters.

Plus I always wonder why in these shows, when there are no cars or no petrol, why doesn't anybody use bicycles?

Terry o'quinn is joining season 2 of FS so well see if he can bring anything.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 24,229 ✭✭✭✭ejmaztec

Falling Skies must be better because FX describes it as "critically acclaimed":pac: when they promote a repeat of the first series in the run-up to the start of the second.

That's a step in the right direction at least. It's not much but it's better than nothing!
