Eh, that's the kind of stuff that's cool when you're eight years of age.

Is it just a smaller or trimmed down version of this one?
AFAIK Fitzcycles sells them or at least had them advertised on their website.

Am. . . . . I don't think its a new idea. You can get little LED valve caps that light up in the same way as your wheels turn. They're about €5 each.

More the safety aspect that I like, though I do admit a childish love for the moving pictures, especially the space invaders. They do make the bike highly visible (more than those other led's that were linked IMO).

Not sure that they would be that safe. I accept that they are visibile. However, it would drive me nuts if I had that lighting display in my field of vision as I cycled. It must be very distracting.
Anyone that has cycled behind a cyclist with intense flashing read lights will know what I am talking about.

From a safety aspect, if these work, these are far more impressive, Revolights:

Wheel lights which can be seen from the side and project so also light up the road on front of you and acts as a front and rear light.

They also used Kickstarter.com and reached $215,621 of a goal of $43,500.

Got these from dealextreme last year, they were excellent. But yes, they look lame, but you are very visible from the side.

    Still waiting on these

    http://www.nightbrighttyre.com/

"tough and durable LED bulbs are built into the tread or wall of the tyre and can either flash or be permanently on, so when the wheel turns at speed, a ring of light is formed whilst continually and perpetually creating its own power."

They are indeed at Fitzcycles in Dublin

Love those old Kelloggs ones though!

I still think a side-facing wrist light is a cheaper and more effective solution to side-on visibility. The wheel isn't a great place to put a load of electronics, given the amount of shock and moisture it is subjected to.

(I am a bit obsessed with wrist lights.)
