Skirts over trousers

I think it's fundamentally, deeply, totally wrong. I absolutely hate it. It's fine for models but on anyone under 5'7" and more than a size 8 it looks dumpy and ugly and like you're wearing all your clothes at once like a homeless person.

Definitely agree with Lainey, its horrible!! It was awful back in the early nineties and just as bad now.

I kinda thought it was cool in the nineties but I don't think I'll start wearing it again anytime soon!

I often wear dresses over skinny jeans to work if the dresses are too short for work. They're always casual dresses and are short enough to pass as a long top. I have to go outside fairly often where I work so it's nice to have the warmth that I wouldn't get from a pair of tights.

That said, some of the skirts/dresses in those links are a bit long and look a but silly. Mid-thigh is as long as I would go.

It definitely depends on the type of skirt and trousers and on the body shape of the person wearing the clothes.

I thought I was De Business with this look back in the 90s, but I agree with sunshine rose and will be leaving that trend where it belongs :D

I never thought of skinny jeans...all I was thinking of was flares/huge wide legged trousers with a kind of kilt skirt over it:eek: I think skinny jeans would be an improvement!

Yeah the trousers have to be tight imo. Otherwise it just looks ridiculous.

This outfit is just horrific. Oops, didn't realise they'd all come up. I meant the one on the left but they're all pretty bad.

It's not a trend I participated in during the 90s but I do remember it.
I think skinny jeans under a mini dress or long tunic would look okay, but full skirts/dresses over baggy jeans, good lord no!

What a bizarre outfit. It looks like she put on a trouser suit, then thought it was too masculine and then put on a skirt to balance it out!?

The outfit on the far right, not something I would wear myself but I like the individual elements of it.

No no no no no no no!!! I remember the back end of this in the late 90s and it didn't work then, won't work now! Awful, awful!

Oh God, I had some sort of hideous trouser/skirt combo in the 90s. Actually wore it on my first proper night out too:o Vile thing, wide legged grey trousers with an attached wrap-around miniskirt in the same material. Dunno what I was thinking!

Guilty, guilty right here!!! My personal fave number was a pair of black flared cords with a floral slightly flared mini over them. Must not dig out a pic!!

    I thought I was hawt!

Yes I did this once too. It wasn't a pants-skirt combo I just had a skirt and a pair of pants that were the same material so I wore them together once in a rare display of trend-following.

The material was very thin though, I don't this this look would work well with anything even remotely bulky or with two different materials.

I wear skirts with skinny jeans - not full skirts but tight-ish short ones like the clothy bandeau mini skirts. I've also worn full length skirts with very baggy trousers.

    Ah well!

:o The memories of wearing tartan mini skirts over trousers. Awful. I won't be jumping aboard this particular trend.
